May, 2010 -- I have been collecting and purchased rose patterns in antisipation of making my own quilt, using roses as the theme. I am using 100% Egyptian cotton with a medium backing and have now stitched out 21 roses.

Half way through, I was really getting discouraged because my thread broke almost every 10 seconds. Changing the needle and slowing the machine didn't help, I finally began changing the density of the patterns and it has helped.

I was beginning to think that there was something wrong with my machine but I stopped for two days and made a table mat for Thanksgiving and it stitched out very nicely... it's the rose patterns!!

I have three sets, 'A Rose Is A Rose', 'Fantastic Roses' and 'Glorious Roses' along with many that were single freebies and all these patterns have the same problem, the density. With flowers, it seems that many stitches are done on top of the base stitching and this makes for very dense patterns.

If this helps anyone, I changed the density of each pattern to 5.0 stitches per height and 5.0 stitches per width and the roses are stitching out much better than before.

All of the roses are just beautiful! Be sure that we all get to see the finished product before someone in the family talks you out of this beauty! Good luck with the rest of the roses and am glad you figured out an easier way to get them all stitched!

Dolly, great work on figuring out what to do and then do it. Can't wait to see how you finish it off.

The roses are beautiful! I've noticed that shading is often done on top of the base colour, which would be alright if the density of that colour was a bit lower than normal.
