Hi,
I had a simular problem with my janome overlocker, I lost a lot of time and fabric to figure out what it was.
After man tries to help me in sewing forum I gave up.
At least I went to the shop, took two or three advices - and it was perfect. That was less than half an hour there.
So my intension is - if it is not too far away, go to the shop, it's faster than to take a lot of time and frustration. With my machine it was the kind of thread - it was not a good one for overlock, only good for sewingmachines. (I didn't know that there is a difference at that time)
If I start to sew with the serger, I sew a few centimeters without fabric, only to make sure the thread is in the right position and I can see the loops how they have to be. Then I take a small fabric - any old one and direct after it without cutting the thread I add the right one, so I have it in a good position. I cut the two pieces after finishing overlocking.
hope it will be helpful.

I have a industrial serger (overlock as we cal it), and when that happens, I know the discs needs to be cleaned real well. Certain cottons tends to build up a little wax layer, and the cotton slips out.
Hope this can mabe help
Hugs and God bless.

I know with my serger, when threading the top tension it wasn't clicking in either than I found if I put it in the slot and kinda head towards the spools of thread then pull towards the front in the tension disc that it will click in then, took me a while to figure it out but now I have it down. I hope you get it going know how it goes when you know you are doing everything right and it is still not working.
Woops ... put my comment in the wrong spot, so ttt for others to add helpful comments.
I have the 910. One of the things you have to make sure, is when you thread it, turn the dial a few times by hand and all the threads have to be under the foot when you start. Than if it's threaded right it should work. I love my serger and use it almost daily. Never had a problem with it.
Thanks for asking. I don't have the HV, but any hints on a serger in general will help us all.
Are you threading it with the presser foot in the raised position? this opens the tension disks to allow the thread to sit in between them. here is a link to follow. When you get to the page there is a threading demo on it click and view..this is a nice serger..sorry can't be more help than that as I own 4 other brands but basically all seem to operate the same.. did you know when you rethread your serger from scratch you should always thread the upper looper first then lower and needles last. other wise the thread breaks after a few stitches.
I've done it exactly like the book says, presser foot up in the proper order. It's right where the thread first enters the top of the machine just above the tension wheel, it's there that it just won't catch. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.......
I have the HV 910 and I haven't had a problem with the threads. I do always put the tension dials on 0 and I hold the thread on both sides of that area when inserting the thread and pull it back & forth a few times to make sure it is seated.
