I think it's actually a matter of opinion. I've just gotten my HQ Avante 18 and dearly love it. It came with a studio frame large enough for a king size quilt. It has a built in stitch regulator (which I think is important) and is a dream to work with. It's not computerized but then I don't want to set a pattern and walk away I want to do the quilting, plus it's several thousand dollars less. I got mine at sewingmachinesplus.com, they gave me a super deal. At my local dealer it was $8495 plus shipping ($500) and plus tax (aprox $525) and sewing machines plus was FREE shipping and no sales tax outside of california. My hubby set it up and it isn't that hard to learn to use. I also got the micro handles and they usualy sell for $295 and he sold them to us for $200. He also threw in some extra bobbins. This company sells all the brands so check him out they were a dream to work with. And above all else, have fun!
Have you tested out any and all quilting machines in the shops that you can get too? I know that the computerized machine are ore versatile, but you need to learn the system. I think that you are on the right track. You are researching and talking to others. The only one I am familiar with is the Bebylock . I know tht it has been raved over in my circles. But you also need to be able to service your machine. Sorry this sounds like I am rambling, but I am typing as thoughts come to my head.
Hi Deanna
My friend and I bot a machine together. It's a Nolting Long Arm on a 12' table. We went with 12' because we calculated it would fit in most rooms easier then a 14' It has a 24" throat. We felt the 36" would b to far for us to reach. We wish we would have gone with the computerized machine now. She has MS and is not able to stand to do the quilting so I do all of it. And I haven't dun that much in quilting so I would have loved to be doing the computerization... So getting a machine is going to be quite a thing for u to decide on... Good luck and I hope you can find what you are looking for...
I have the Janome 6600P and love it. It does all I want it to do
Janome have just brought out three new long-arm computerised machines: Models 1600PQC, MC6600P and the top of the range MC7700QCP, which has an arm space of 280mm! Check out their website.
I would certainly go for computerised.
