I have just bought some faux suede to make bags with. This is the first time I have bought this material, and I wonder if anyone has embroidered on it without ruining it! Any help appreciated.

I am interested but have not tried. Have you bought a fabric called 'ultrasuede'? Remember when it was first produced it was used as a luxury fabric and was quite expensive, but it was lovely. It was the sort of thing that people were buying to share with friends, and they used it for bookmarks and such. Entire articles of clothing were very expensive. Have not really looked for it lately though.
Good luck with your project!

Also, check with Shirlene. I believe she has made things with it and posted them a while back.

I used it for sunglass cases.
I used 2 types one had a cloth backing which needed a design that wasn't dense. The other had a backing that looked almost like a fine corduroy. That one I used a more dense design. (see pic)
I used a leather needle
I used sticky back tear away stabilizer
I did NOT hoop the fabric
I did NOT do a basting stitch

Thank you so much, very helpful. I was thinking of a design that isn't dense, and using sticky back stabiliser so as not to mark the fabric. Many thanks again.
