inch around the design. I tried this but it doesn't look nice on the back. I checked the ones in retail stores and they have no evidence of stabilizer left around the design and look very neat. If you leave that allowance wouldn't it be scratchy and detract from the appearance of the towel? I would appreciate some input on this. Thanks.

Looks like you've gotten your answer from the experts. I always use tear away on bottom and WSS on top with good results. Took advice from others and no longer hoop either.

I would never use cutaway on towels. I also do mine like the others suggested. H&*

A medium wt tear away on back & WSS on top. I never hoop, Baste towel to the hooped stabilizer . Mine usually turn out great. *

I use a tear away on the bottom and water soluable on the top to keep the pokies down. I think a cut away would be ok for a decoration only towel.

The cut away was fine for looks, but very stiff.I tried a hand towel but it will be just for looks for sure!
Thanks for the help.

I had a similar problem there is a tear away type stabilizer that will wash away after a few washes and this has been good for me. I would say this would work for you. Others may have more suggestions for you. Hugs Lisa

I never use a cutaway on towels I only use water soluable stabilizer (wss)
on top and bottom
(mesh kind for the bottom and if I have the clear type on top otherwise mesh)
I do not hoop the towel I use either a basting stitch or sticky back wss or both if it is a thick towel
