I have heard the 8 hours rule a bunch. The last class I went to said every 35,000 - 45,000 stitches. I change mine after a project or two or when I am about to start something really special that I want to turn out well or when I have problems with missed stitches or shredded thread or other frustrations.
Shazells, I try to change mine every 8 hours of use - as the others have said - on a regular basis - I do that and have great results with my embroidery work. Go for it and do it.
I was told when I bought by Babylock to change every 8 hrs of use
I have had my machine long enough that I can tell by the sound, and by what the design looks like when to change needles. H&*
Hi I use mine 8-10 hours then change it. I keep a sticky note paper and record the hours used. I change it more often when I do FSL . Those are needle killers. I use titinum when doing projects that have dense or many stitches. The needles last twice as long as the regular needles. Besides you can hear them before they need changing. They sort of made a small clunking sound or fray the thread or skip a stitch or two. I would rather change a inexpensive needle than ruin my expensive machine. Suzanne
After a few uses I do change needles but I reuse my old needles . I place them in a TOMATO filled with emery sand . This sharpens them. I just twirl them around a few times and they are like brand new. Cuts cost down(not that they are expensive)
I teach my students, at least plusminus every eight hours of actual sewing. Otherwise, when you start missing stitches, or machine just do not work well. First look to see whether a new needle will not stop the problem
shame shame shame on me I change it when it breaks. It usually means it's been worn down (giggle) After every project i'd go broke! Altho I must admit that everytime I go to the store I buy a pack of needles so i always have em on hand......
It is very inressesting to have your answers on this question***
okay make that 4 needles in one day. These embossed designs are killers on my needles.
I'm very guilty. I don't change them unless they break. I broke three of them today. Five sets of bath towels.
Of course you leave it in too long. We all do according to the needle manufacturers. Some say new needle for every new project, some say after 8 hrs of Non strenuous sewing. I say when it starts to sound or act dull! Or if I'm doing something very special I'll start with a new needle.
I was told by te Viking dealer that you should put in a new needle when you start a new project! I DON'T THINK SO!!! I have several projects all going at the same time, I check my needle before each embroidery, for burrs or snags, if it needs changed I change it!! Hugs, Judy
Yes Yes Yes .....I try to change mine every 8 to 10 hours
