I am starting to add in embroidery in my alterations business-but I don't know for sure how to charge. Mostly what people ask for is monograms on towels and such. I was hoping to get a priceline by checking out craft fairs in our area but since I made that decision, there haven't been any. I am not in a big city either, so I am not going to go so high that people will turn and run. Feedback would be greatly appreciated (I have googled and checked out some sites, but it's kinda all over the place with how to charge)~~Linda~~

I charge $5.00 for monogram shirts or ribbons, for towels I charge $7.00 because usually the letters are bigger. I sell girls clothes and I do appliques on the outfits and on those is depend of the applique. Hope I have giving you some ideas, but remember prices depend of the area where you live. I live in a small town

I, too, charge $5 for a monogram..from 1 to 3 letters. Usually they are in one color & only 1 hooping. If I am going fancy, using stacked name, etc. I charge more.

Linda, I like sewdoctors comment, it sounds like a great way to price. As I was told early on: "Charge $1 for every 1000 stitches." However, that could be pretty pricy for something with alot of stitches - so I have figured out the price per hooping - that includes everything involved in the stitching of this item, except the actual item being stitch - $8. However, if you feel that is a bit much or not enough - adjust the price to met the need.

I do mostly for friends, so I work pretty cheap...but if it is Monograms, I charge $5.00 for anything that will fit into a 4x4 hoop, If I need to use my 5x7 it goes to $10.00. Now I am not talking about something that takes hours to stitch out, with several color changes. This is my base price.
