By request for april22. Boy, what a challenge to do a pure white doggie. More stitches in this one to get some shading in there....hope it turns out OK and is to your liking......By the way that is a little pillow with W's on it (for Westies) that he is sleeping on.......

West Highland White Terriers are the white half, of the dogs on the Black & White Scotch Whisky bottles.

I don't know if this will help you with the shading on a white dog or not .A few years ago I did a Westie by hand in cross stitch .Shading was done by using various shade of cream & beige ,in fact not much white was used but the end result was great.Also another design used used greys-great design but the dark greys looked like dirt.

Thank you so much for the input...that is usually what I try to do as well is use a contrasting shading color, but this one really had me stumped because there was so much white long hairs on every pic I looked at sprouting out all over and fluffy..

Madeira has a number of whites that are just subtle variations, 1001-1003 and 1071 is a very light ecru. Same goes for black - although those don't have successive numbers. But I find varying the angle of the fill gives nice subtle shading.
