Where would be the best place to buy mylar in Australia. Is there only 1 type ( like cellophane) or are there different types. I would like one that would stand washing, for kids T shirts. thanks

I would like to know if it is washable too. I'd like to make someting for my granddaughter, but you know with kids everything needs to be washable!

Designs sewn with TRUE mylar, like that sold thru Sharon are indeed able to be washed, put in the dryer and ironed (from the back). Many have reported as such, however the lower quality Chinese films are reported to have colours run if washed.

Altho mylar is expensive here in Oz, it would be worth those few extra dollars if you're planning on washing the embroidered items. Take heart tho coz apparently one sheet is enough for many projects.

I have purchased and used MYlar from Heirloom. It came within a few days and the price with shipping was reasonable. It is not very heavy. It is quite nice. She does have a distributor in UK. She also just added some new colors. Her web site explains very well. Watch out it is very addicting LOL, like we are not addicts already. Hugs L

I've heard ppl recommending Punch With Judy as another mylar source as well as Sharon (someone else gave that link).

I used the inside of a Twisties packet for a mylar design I embroidered and as I dont intend on washing the finished item it worked fine. Same with a "metallic cello" I got at the $2 shop - its not cellophane btw - I dont intend to ever wash that item either :)

Good luck sourcing it & hope you let us know who you went with and what the service was like :)

Here is a good clear picture of Mylar which may help you to know what to look for.

There are some people selling this on Ebay in Aus.

I would probably go looking in the Newsagents, Woolies or Coles as I know I have seen rolls of this plastic film and it is made by Dupont after all.

It won't hurt to experiment on a small design once you have purchased some.
That is what I would do before paying someone else to purchase it, add their mark-up and sell it to me for twice the price.

And just to clarify WHAT is Mylar, I suggest we all visit the site below so you don't get ripped off buying "Embroidery" Mylar.
