Hi Shirlene you must be glad I was not there. I used to have long hair as a kid - it was never cut only trimmed for split ends for almost 15 years, but since my kids were born it was never longer than shoulder length but obviously you do to your kids what you were used to. So their hair were never cut. The oldest being quite tall had hair way below her bottom and had to go on a school tour as she could not manage the hair on her own I agreed to cut it to her waistline. I cried while I was cutting it and my heart was broken for a week. I did not want to speak about it and could hardly face her. Well luckily it is a year later and it is almost there again. Long hair is so beautiful but I understand the hassles and headaches - still I would have cried. The good that goes with it is also so important. I must say love your photo's too you look really gteat with the shorter hair too. I guess with my childrens' hair there is a lot of crying in future.
How funny you are - all hair grows - believe me - I have had my long and short - all my life. No need to cry over it - it will grow back.
Shirlene, You look amazing! Years younger! Rick will have to watch the men now!
Suzette, you are sooooooooooo sweet - Rick never worries about other men. Hehehe!
Just so you all know - whenever I allow my hair to grow this long - which is about every couple years - I donate all of it to allow cancer patients to get a wig. I have been doing it for as long as they have been accepting donation in this respect. I go from long to shorter, all the time - my hair grows really fast - no sense it paying someone to cut it every 6 weeks - when I can wait a year and have enough to donate - Hehehe - if I am lazy or enjoy the length - it might grow for 3 years, but I usually can't stand the weight of it - past my waist. Thank you to everyone that said I look younger - I really must have looked old, before - because I can't see it, myself. Hehehe!
Shirlene, you look wonderful in your new dooo. When I get a haircut I feel 100% lighter. To bad it's all in my head and not my body. Teehee!!
Looks great. Of course I like short hair. Friends tease me about having hair shorter than my hubby's and he still wears a high & tight Marine cut. Hugs.
Like it Shirlener, makes you years younger lol.
I am sure you will not regret it.
Great that you donated the hair for cancer victims.
That must give you such a good feeling.
Take care
Hugs Edith
Edith, thank you - I have been doing that since I was very young and they first started taking donations. It is a great feeling knowing that the hair is put towards another's use.
I love your new do!! It looks good on you. I bet it is a bit cooler now. Locks of Love is such a good cause. I am glad to hear you are donating it. My son has done that twice. Now he is back to a buzz cut. Hugs, Mary
Mary, thank you so much - much cooler - at times - though - I feel it on my neck and wished I had gotten it just a bit shorter in the back - lol. Good for your son - I have always done it - from the beginning - when they first started to collect it, every couple years.
What a wonderful, and busy day!
Oh yes, it was - I loved the visit - Terri has a wonderful house and her craft room is full of different project and so many different crafts that she does. She is very talented.
OK OK OK - here it is - thanks to Terri and her husband for taking such great pictures - while visiting them today. It is late - so I will make another post about the visit and share more photo's there. Hehehe! What do you think?
Wow! Love your new avatar! Girl I hope you send the hair to "Locks of Love" for the young Cancer patients! You look great!
I know you'll love your new do.....my husband would love for me to have long hair again but at my age and with my long face that's not going to happen....It was 100 degree today and heat index was 106 (SW Georgia)....I'm looking forward to fall!.....so glad your donating your hair, what a blessing for some one....Janet
Janet, thank you - I should wear my hair long - as old as I am either. Hehehe! It was only in the lower 90's here.
YEH FOR YOU!!!!!
I've had short hair all my life (apart from my wedding day - Monkey cut!!! back in 1972).
I can't stand having hair on the back of my neck, so hence short hair. Not to mention it's easy to get ready and blow drys in about 5 minutes!
Glad you have donated your hair Shirlene - what a great cause too.
Hope to see the new you when Terri takes photo.
Have a great time being together and thank her once again from me for the lovely little lemon coaster that she gave to Meganne to hand out to us Aussies.
Love and blessings Chris
Oh Chris, mine isn't short like yours and I do have some on the back of my neck - I will have to tell Terri not we talk - I am home now and about to load the photo's. Hehehe!
Shirlene, I'm sure you look great. I have most always had mine short, because I'm not very tall. ( 5ft ). Since this summer is so hot, you will love it short. Won't take long to dry either! Yeah for you. It's good Rick loved it. Smiles. I'm sure he loves everything about you.
God bless, Judy
Judy, thank you so very much - you are a shorty aren't you? Rick is a dear one, too.
WOW - can't wait to see the new you. My family has donated hair many times for Locks of Love. Even my husband has donated 2 or 3 times. He used to wear a ponytail that put mine to shame. I think that my hair is again about long enough to donate. I gave up 13 inches last year, and it down my back again. But you would never know. I either wear it pulled up in a pony tail, or with a clip pulled up. LOL
Beth, I am about to load the photo - I am so happy to hear that your family also donates their hair, too. It is so worth it. I was wearing mine in a braid and it was getting way to heavy. This will be nice - even though it isn't tooooooo short.
I will be updating this - after my visit with Terri - so it will be later tonight.
Oh NO!!! Shirlene! All that beautiful hair... I do understand tho. Did you donate it to Locks of Love? That is what my son did when he cut his hair. Yep it was that long too...hehehe.... He's bald now, I don't guess you did that did you. hahaha....What did Rick say?
Terre, of coarse - I have donated my hair when it is more than 10" ever since I was very young. Always a need for that sort of thing. At first I thought Rick would be upset - but I have been saying for months - that I wanted to cut my hair - so it was not a shock - when I got home - he sat up and told me to twirt around - he loved it and has said so many times in less than 24 hours - how much he likes it.
LOL I'm sure it feels lighter too. I know when I just get mine thinned it always feels light. :)
BTW Your pic is gorgeous! I love the hair cut. It's still long enough to do things with. (put in ponytail if needed)hehehe... Mine stays in a pony tail all the time.lol
Oh, can't wait to see the new Shirlene. Bet you still look gorgeous. What does Rick think of the new you?
Karen, thanks - it will have to wait - until I get home from Terri's - she is going to take my picture - Rick loved it.
I bet you feel like a different woman. Can't wait to see the new you. It's wonderful that you donated it to a good cause.
Reva, thank you - I have been doing that for so many years, too. I can't wait to add the picture - so you all can see me, as well.
Oh Shirlene, I know you feel a lot better with the hair being shorter. I am glad you donated it. I have a daughter in law that just did that also. Her hair was down to her waist. I son let his grow really long about 5 years ago and donated it also. Now I am trying to get my grandson to cut his. Very Very long black hair. Someone will love to get that. Looking forward to seeing the new you. Mildred
Mildred, thanks - mine was to my waist, as well. Now is is just below the neck. Glad to hear your family does that, too.
Shirlene I bet it feels so much better. When I had mine cut off it felt so much lighter, and cooler.
Kathy, to say the least - it is lighter - my head was aching from time to time from the weight of it - glad to hear - you like your haircut, too.
Shirlene; I hope you can donate that to 'Locks for Love' (?) which is an organization that makes wigs for people with cancer who have lost their hair. I know they would be grateful for your beautiful hair!
Of coarse dear - have been doing that for years. I have never heard back from them - on whether they think it is beautiful or not. Hehehe!
Wow Shirlene what a move. I look forward to seeing the picture if the new you.
Glad to hear Rick enjoys the Tour de France, I come from a cycling mad family. My younger daughter road for a womans team for 3 years and I went to a number of the races she took part in. I look forward - one year - getting to the final of the Tour in Paris.
Thanks Caroline, we would love to go to the final of the Tour, too - but I doubt that will ever happen for us. Hope you get there, though.
Shirlene, I now fully understand why older ladies all have short hair, I can't stand the thickness on the back of my head and have kept my hair short since '95. Once menopause (?spelling) sets in and we face those hot flashes, off comes the hair lol now we need a pix of you with your new hairdo!!
Dolly, actually - I have been wearing mine in a pony tail or braid for so long - that now - I feel it more - than before - but it was so heavy - it hurt. Now I feel lighter. I never had any of the meonpause troubles. Pix will come later tonight.
I had long hair down to my waist when I met my X. When he came to pick me up for our 1st real date, I had had my hair cut real short. He was in shock! I let it grow a little bit until I got pregnant 3 yrs after we got married. He came home from work one day and I had it cut up over my ears. He raised the roof about me looking like a man and being pregnant. Did not matter to me because it felt so good that short. That was 44 yrs ago and it has been cut over my ears since I was pregnant. I guess it did not make that much difference to him because the second wife's hair is short like mine and as long as I have known her it has been short. She is older than I am but we grew up together and she was a very good family friend until...........I think men just like to complain to hear theirselves talk! It needs cutting right now and will probably cut it in the morning when I start to shower. I also need a color! The snow white is beginning to outshine the blonde. The hair that outlines my face is solid snow white and no color that I can find will cover it up. I just try to keep my now dingy blonde a lighter shade so it will not show up so bad. The blonde that did not turn snow white has turned a very dingy blonde instead of my original blonde. I can not fix most of the old age changes but I can still do some fixing on the hair! heehee
Your hair looks great and it does make you look alot younger. If the weather is as hot out there as it has been in Georgia so far this summer, I know it has to feel better. It will also be easier to fix. One thing about it, the more you cut it , the faster it will grow so if you decide to let it get long again, it won't take that long to get alot of it back. Hugs, Linda
Can't believe you did that! It's great you donated it to such a good cause. It must feel strange to have such a light head now. Looking forward to seeing the new you!
Martine, thanks - I will get that pix - once I get to and from Terri's. Hehehe!
I can't believe you cut your hair. I'll love seeing the new do tomorrow
Yep, and you will be the one to take my picture for my new avatar. Can't wait to see you in a few hours. Hehehe!
Take a good look at my avatar - because I am hoping to get a new one - to put up by tomorrow or the next day - here is a picture of what they cut off - I am donating it to cancer victims for a wig to be made - what do you think? Did I get too much cut off?
