In DST, the colors just tell the order of stitching, not the colors to be used in the embroidery. It's just the nature of the program, so you have to choose your own colors. There is a free program from Tajima that will let you choose colors and see them on the screen, so you know you've chosen rightly, and can get an idea how it will look. Can't remember the address off the top of my head, but try tajima.com. Good luck and hugs, Marji

I'm like lenamae, I use the colors I want, each time different, if I'm using the same design but want a different look. To determine my colors however, I look at the original and then think of colors that are either close or what I want it to look like. I think the ones with loads of colors are more 2/3 dimensional. I'm still new with all this, but have been crafting for years. I take Nike's motto... "Just Do It". hehehehe...Don't be afraid to try something new. BTW, I have PES also...

I have Embird, I change the colors as I DL if the design has many color change. I do not use picture because it a lot of ink consuming, very expensive ink my printer is around 40$ . I was reading there are free programs do the same I advice you to Dl a free one and it is going to be very easy. Good luck!

just the nature of the beast. It happens to all of us I guess. I know everytime I get designs no matter what format I get the colors seem to be out of whack. So I either pick my own or do like Meganne says and download a pix.

I only download designs I really want or designs in only a few colors if they are not in my format. It is really time consuming to change the colors. Someone once said here to start with the obvious ones first. Like you know the spots on the cow are black. And the grass is green. I hope this helps! Good luck. I wish there was an easier way to do this!

After I have worked my way through the color corrections, I save that design and delete the other one.

Thanks Smith, I notice that it was very time consuming. However; all these came when I first began embroidery but now a LIGHT has come on...LOL ;D *2U

I always download a photo of the design & keep that as a reference for the original colour scheme.
I also convert any DST or Tajima designs to Pes or Jef then, when I am ready to use a particular design I change the colours using Embird.

Of course you can sometimes get a colour chart to go with the design, or even a Text file or RGB file containing the colour chart.

Embird can read a lot of the Text files, if they have been set up properly, and it can read RGB files, so if you have Embird you can open the design in Manager then LOAD the text file (colour list) or RGB file, then save the EDR (Embird's colour file) with the design.

The Text file or RGB file and EDR files need to have EXACTLY the same name as the design file.

If you don't have Embird, you should still be able to do this in your Embroidery Software or use Ambassador by Pulse, which does give you this function.

I hope this info helps, Hugs n roses, Meganne
