down pat! I've heard all the jars POP so guess they all sealed. My kids will be so happy Christmas when I do the HOME canned green beans since Mom's been gone since March '93!

I do a lot more freezing nowadays. It seems easier. I still make blackberry jam and will can tomatoes if the garden has to many. What a nice feeling though to know exactly what the ingredients are. Good job Gerry.

That is a memory for me. When my family was yound we did beans and had them all winter. We would get so many from the garden that my boys would help me head and tail and cut them up.

When growing up on a dairy farm Mom canned all the time even beef, before everyone had a freezer. Made pickles every year when they had enough money to buy the sugar.
We use to take the cucumbers that got to large for pickles and scoop the insides out and use them for little boats and floot them in a wash tub. Gee, what found memeories.
I still put up at least two batches of pickles each year just because they are so good. Nice to go down memory lane with you all. God bless, Judy

Oh, how I miss the home canned beans. I use to can beans and freeze corn all of which we grew. It would last us all winter and until garden time again. Enjoy those beans!

I have a big garden and can everything! I do vegetables, relishes.pickles, catsup, mustards, juices.jams and jellys etc... I know I have no preservatives or salt in my food. All we buy is meat. I make the cookies.pies, cakes, breads etc. I really cuts out food bill dramatically and there is no garbage going in the landfill from me. The jars are reusable. The peels egg shells, coffeegrounds etc go in the compost bin for next years black gold soil. Talk about resclycing!! Everything tastes so much fresher. Hubby just haevested the onions and he will be digging up potates soon. Suzanne

about 30 or 40 years ago, I had a bumper crop of tomatoes, so I went out to the local hard ware store and bought all the canning supplies, canner ,jars and lids. I don't think we had Walmart back then. Worked for days canning my tomatoes and was so proud. On my next weekly trip to the grocery store I noticed an end isle display of brand name tomatoes on special 4 for a dollar. I cried all the way home and never did any more canning. Although with today's grocery prices canning would make since again. The modern pantry doesn't even provide that much room for home canning. I am proud of you Gerry!!! Kay

I love canning. We do chili sauce, pickled beets and dill pickles. My husband's mother always did corn relish. We haven't done it in years. Happy Canning. Regards Lynn.

So happy to hear that canning still is done - my Mother "Miss Loretta" did oodles of cannine when we were young - round the clock at times - for weeks - getting all the fruit and veggies done for the year. I am sure your family will love your green beans, alot.

I used to can with my grandmother, and my mother. Her health isn't the best, so we don't can or freeze anymore. Even tho it was a lot of hard (hot) work, it was also fun...
