I see you have lot's of good advise. Just remember, if you are stitching on knit like a t- shirt to change the needle to a ball point.. If your are doing regular embroidery use a sharp needle.

You have your answer. but I wanted to say congrats on you new Baby, the Ellisimo. I have one and love it. And no question is stupid. It is only stupid if you don't ask. Besides. there are probably lots of folks who had the same question.
Look on ebay a great source for finding great deals on needles and extra bobbins at a fraction of the Babylock Dealers asking price. I also have an Ellisimo. Have you looked at the embroidery software yet?
A ball point needle is usually used to sew knits. The point is slightly rounded so that it pushes the threads aside, rather than piercing it. Breaking a knitted thread, can cause a hole or run.
Most machines come with a small varity of needles, and should be clearly marked.
Singer ball points are the gold band. Schmetz make a universal, that can be used with both knit and woven fabric.
