I unzip every day as I download as I have had too many corrupt files that will not open. I was busy one day last month and forgot to unzip and now have only a bad file for the G in Ricky's Tulip Alpha. Thankfully all the others that day were OK. If it is something I can download again later I am not so careful to unzip everything as I am with daily freebies.
I'm going to have to practice this method of taking care of it as I go. Because it does get overwhelming. :) I'd rather be embroidering but can't until I have the file to connect to...
I always unzip my files as soon as I DL them , putting them in the category they belong in. If I didn't I would probably lose half of them. *
Linda, I wind up repeating the design because I haven't unzipped. I'm going to take care of the problem as soon as I unzip everything. :)
My computer goes so slow with all of my designs in it,& these are all zipped.Just imagine if they were unzipped.I am not happy to unzip & put on disc or portable hard drive. As I have lost designs from a disc & also the portable hard drive stopped working & I can't get them out of there either.D/H keeps on complaining when I go mad, he tells me to do something with those darn designs.HEHEHE:)
Debbie, the zipped have all formats, so I unzip them delete everything except pes and any instructions/copywrite etc..
I just save the zipped files on my mini external hard drive. My converter program unzips them so I can convert to vp3 for my pfaff.
I don't evennn.... wanna talk about it. When I started I did pretty good, but now I got you all beat for files that are not unzipped. I'm embarrassed to say. When we got custody of my grandbaby it was all I could do to get them downloaded. Now I have forgot how to unzip them, etc.
Debbie, I know children take up a lot of time too. (sometimes I want to zip my grandchildren, they are all between 7-14 and talk constantly.)hehehe... to unzip, right click on the folder, scroll down to
Extract All and then follow the rest of the instructions. Easy Peasy. LOL
I try to unzip soon after I download....but as for converting and filing I don't always do that....I wished I would have started a embroidery organizer when I first started (I didn't know about the downloading addition some of us have)....I have so many designs to file it's going to take a long time.
Mine is a couple of months worth which is why it will probably take me a couple of months. hehehe... If I could just QUIT clicking the download button. LOL
Wow reading all the answers makes me feel guilty, I never unzip my files. I use 4D by Viking, it has a the organizer in it that unzips all files in a folder and will even search subfolders for me. So when I am looking for that certain design I just do a search through the folder and drag and drop to my embroidery screen or my disk manager depending on what I am doing with it,
Do you rename all your folders? Cause I couldn't remember all mine. Sound like you have some great software! Definitely don't even feel guilty... weeeeellll maybe a little. hehehehe....
I keep them in main folders like animals then subfolders like cats, birds, dogs, ect.. with alpha's I do a to z folders then they go in each folder according to what the name of the alpha is like the new alpha here will go in E folder for embossed then it will have it's own subfolder and I always name the folders with the site they came from. so the new alpha's folder is named (embossed seahorse cutey)the caterpiller alpha is named (caterpillar cutey2) so in my program I can just browse for the folder I want to open and it unzips the entire file for me. I can also tell it to only open the pes files in the folder of whatever format I want.
I see, Michelle. I have my files under categories like alphabets, animals, babies, etc... Then in those I have subcategories, But I see now I'm changing my Alpha like you are doing. Makes more sense. I do have a search program on my computer but have never used it. Thanks for opening my eyes. LOL
I filed over 600 files when I was on Vacation!! I now have over 400 to file!!!Life is Good!!!
If I don't upzip them when I get them - I don't ever use them. Hehehe!
LOL I'm understanding that too. I have been sorting while I go. hehehe...
I use 3D organizer and when you click on a zipped file you can see what the design is. So I only unzip the file when I need to use it. There is a program on the market that my frienduses. You can set it up to scan your files and pull out the files you need and your second choice if necessary and then delete the balance. Keep saying I will look into it, but never do. I will email her and ask her for the name of the program.
Thats pretty cool. I'll have to look into the 3D. It definitely wouldn't take up as much memory space on the computer, huh?
Nualaa, I have 3D organizer and have never really checked it out. Will have to have a look at it...but how to start? any hints on how it works? Sally
Yes, I have trouble doing it also. I would much rather get the designs unzipped. But at the same time I do love downloading a whole set at one time.
Even if they are unzipped I would have to delete all programs except the one I use...I guess it's about as broad as it is long. :)LOL
I DO THE SAME THING LET THEM PILE UP,THEM COMPLAINT THIS IS TO MUCH WORK.BUT IF IDID IT EVERY DAY WOLDENENT BE.SO BAD,ILL WAIT TILL WE ARE OFF DIAL UP.ONE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS MOVE WE GET HIGH SPEED,YA HOO HI SPEED. LOVE LUCY
I have PE Design for Brother and instead od saving a file I open it and it unzips for me.
I know exactly what you mean! I think I do them about once a week now. And if it's been good hunting that week, it takes a while. Good luck and make a promise to yourself (I mean myself! lol) to do it daily!
hahaha. I do try to promise LOL, but what I need to do is quit going to all these freebies. hehehe...
Those are what I call "Roundtuits" -- I'll do 'em when I get a "roundtuit"! LOL
Blessings,
Diane
PS -- Those "roundtuits" are really hard to find sometimes! :-D
