This is nice of you to post to let people know. We don't call it that over here in Canada. We call it the Food Bank. There are several churches that do the same thing, too. I, for one, have had to use these services a handful of times last year when my husband was not working. It was difficult to do the first couple times, but then I realized there are people just like me out there and I should not be ashamed. I have helped and given food in the past to the hungry, so I don't know why I felt the way I did when I then needed the help. Maybe I thought people were going to look at me differently, I don't know... Anyways, I'm glad I went and we didn't go hungry which was the main thing.
Now, a year later, my husband has a full time job and although we are still struggling a bit, it is no where near as hard as it was back then. I just keep saying "Baby Steps" - that's what you have to say when the big picture looks too frightening!
thanks for posting this. we have several churches in the area that participate. it's a program that everyone can use!
It is a wonderful organization. I agree that in these times it is a good idea to share the names of places and organizations who are helping those in need.
We have an angel food ministies over in Thayer, Mo. Also alot of food banks and churches that collect food for the needy. I do alot of volunteer work and we have a need for assistance in this rural area. It's a good thing to be able to help others. Carol
This is a very important post. I would like to remind people that even if there isn't an Angel Food Ministries near them almost every city/town has a food pantry many churches do also. The pantry I volunteer at only requires proof of residency. I have spoken to many people coming to the pantry getting info about other pantries, to send people to, and many do not require anything other than people with a need to come. If there is a Salvation Army you can get food, clothing, sometimes medical help from them, they do have specific requirements though.
If someone has a need for any service, they can call their local Human Services, area churches, sometimes the unemployment office can direct you in the right direction.
I know that it is so very hard to ask for help, but if you need it then get it and when you are back on your feet thank Jesus and then pay it forward by volunteering or donating back to the community.
God bless you all.
Yes, that is a good idea to spread around. We have one in our town. But our church also has a food bank for local community. We have stayed very busy with it. You have to be on food stamps or some type of govt assistant program.
Bev, this is great - there isn't any in my state - however.
