Just wanted to let you know that if you get any designs off Embroidery Library, you can always log in and see your order history. If you lose them, I believe you would be able to download them again becasue you already paid for them. I think you can even download them again in a different format (becasue perhaps you purchased a new machine that uses different formats from the one you downloaded them in in the first place). Not sure about other sites, but I worth checking into.

If restoring is absolutely necessary, before doing that............please have a computer tech try to move your files from the harddrive. sometimes a restore can work if entered in safe startup. Restore and recover are obviously different operation. Restore does not remove data files, recover does. So far, I have not seen a computer so burned by a virus that we could not recover files ever when we had to use a boot cd to bypass the startup from the hard drive. Don't give up on your files until you ask for tech help please.

We must have visited the same site. This morning when I booted my computer, it said I have a worm and trojan. I do have AVG, so I did get a warning and sent the file to the vault. Now I have to figure out what to do next! I haven't had the AVG long and haven't learned how to use it yet. Luckily I do back up my files on an external drive, so they will be safe. Good luck to you.

sorry this happened to you. hope you get a good virus-blocker. * for now

by meganne 03 Aug 2010

I feel so sorry for you my dear, that is just terrible, but the Trojan was probably downloaded from an embroidery site you visited.
I say that because I too downloaded a Trojan but thankfully my Norton's pounced on it and blocked it.

If you are connected to the internet in any way, you MUST install a GOOD Antivirus, Internet Security Program.

Hopefully others will learn from your misfortune.

There are mongrels out there and they don't have any scruples or principles, they don't care who they hurt, it is just a big trip for them.

I am so sorry this happened to you and I pray that you can recover some of your files from backups.
Hugs and blessings, Meganne

if the files are irreplaceable you may trying taking it to a computer place and pay to have them retrieve your files. It usually costs more than $100. but they know how to do that kind of stuff.

I use Zone Alarm firewall and Avast. And I don't let anyone play on my computer. I copy my important files onto an external hard drive about once a month. A hard drive can die at any time. I just don't want to lose everything. I'm pretty paranoid about losing data.

by kezza2sew 02 Aug 2010

Not Good. I feel for you. I also have the external hard drive and once a month I back up Photos and designs. So with the alphabets folder I just keep moving that one into the next month, that way I continue saving into the same alphabet folders. I should really do it weekly a lot can happen in a month I know. Please try not to worry over it too much. Any designs you purchased you should be able to retrieve from the buyer. Photos are precious, you will still have the memories...
I hope you can get someone to try to get them back for you.

You should get an external hard drive to store your files on. I got one that came with a program that will automatically update everytime you plug it to computer. Got it from HSN for around $100.

I agree with you as a virus or trojan will only affect the operating system. if you have a big drive try partitioning it to a couple of smaller drives. AM sorry to hear of your plight as this happened to me many years ago and lost a lot of photos. I learnt the hard way, but now I backup every night before going to bed. Hopefully this will keep me safe,

Last week my DH's computer got a virus/trojan and I worked for two days to fix it. This mean thing wouldn't even allow to restore. Ended up starting in safe mode and then was able to remove files it had affected including the registery keys. Ran three different scans and is working fine now. This method didn't remove any of his files. These virus/trojans are just mean..

I was lucky enough to use my computer to find a solution to help remove the pest. If it ever happens again find on your computer how to start your computer in safe mode and keep the instuctions where you can find them. My DH was happy that he didn't loss his stuff and had to start over again.

Wow I am so sorry that happened to you. It happened to me a few months ago but I have 2 backups of my important files ( photos and embroidery files mostly) that saved me. Maybe you need a password on your pc. I may be rotten when I password my embroidery pc when I go on vacation and have relatives with kids staying in my house but it protects my designs so then they just mess up my kitchen and ruin my cookware instead. Ha ha Be sure and get some virus and especially malware protection on your pc. Hope you get some of your files back, Carol.

Hi, I am so sorry to hear what happen to your computor, I had mentioned it before, to use a flash disc/ memory card or and external hard drive, when that had happend to one of our cuties. It is not safe to have anything saved on computors today, if they can get into our bank account and take our money through a computor, they can do anything. Destorying other people is some peoples way of living, these people are really sick. Please save all you documents, pictures, musics, videos, designs any others on any of the above mentioned, should you loose it on your computor, you will still have it saved safely. I hope I can help you in anyway. It is sad when this happen to one of us, I feel your pain. Take care and our love is with you.

By the way you should never trust the computer for storage of any files.Send them to a memory stick or burn them to a cd periodically.Memory sticks are cheap (about $5-$8 at Wal-Mart)and hold GOBS of stuff.Your computer should only be used for going to the internet. But Photos files etc move them to your sticks. I use one for photos, Recipes, or designs, My tax files(Can't afford to lose that)Then I use the empty MENTOS containers(different colors)for storing memory stick. Green-taxes, red -photos, orange recipes etc. Hope this helps you and others.

Thank yo all for the caring support. I had and am in the process of downloading all my spywar, malware, virus, etc. scans onto the comp. again. My daughter found a few disk that she had burned for me just in case and thats a little relief there but I certainly am gonna miss all those embroidery designs. Thank you all so much. I will do what I can to try and retrieve what may be retrievable. :) God bless.

Karsyersky is the BEST, THE BEST!Installed in my computer after I went to an embroidery site and got my computer locked up then NOTHING but -Do you want to buy our Virus protection ads etc. Even got porn!
This Karsyersky gives you a free trial option then you can install it up to 3 computers for around $80.00 No longer will I ever buy Norton or McAfee! Once thier term expires your computer will lock up.

How long can you use Karsyersky, because I have norton and every year I have to renew it because you can only use it for one year and it cost so much. I would like to try the one you use.

Oh man, that was my greatest fear. Sorry to hear it has happened to you! I just ran to the store this afternoon on advice of other cuties for a question I posted and got a USB memory stick and just now put all my designs onto it. My CD burner wouldn't burn for some reason sob $12 USB for peace of mind. Good luck getting back a bunch of free designs.

so sorry for that trouble. For me the worst thing would be family pictures (that's always my nightmare: the pics of my kids growing up get lost). Hope they maybe can save some pieces. Did you send pictures to family and friends? Maybe they can send you a copy?
Feeling with you and give you a big hug

There are some programs that will allow you to recover some of what you lost, depending of course on the type of virus. Research it online and call around to places like Best Buy or Apple or where computers are sold and see what they come up with. Don't give up without a fight! Then, what ever the outcome is, get a portable back up drive, some flash drives, and make it a point to keep your important things on there. I learned the hard way, after moving and my carton of photo albums, including wedding ones, baby ones, etc. disappeared. So, now I have a flash drive for pictures, one for music and one for my designs, though now I have several for my designs. They all are on my portable hard drive too.
The way technology is heading, desk tops will become the thing of the past, and those pads will be what we use. The Ghost technology, meaning we do not keep software programs onto our hard drives anymore, and use those online "safe" storage programs to hold our important stuff, for a fee of course, is where we are headed.
I feel for you, honestly. Losing what you did is a painful lesson in what we should be doing to safeguard our life investments. But, please do not just give up. Call around, get several ideas, don't take that there is nothing you can do as an answer. The police have programs to retrieve info, so its out there, just have to work a bit to find it.
I wish you luck!!!
