I've had my mat for about 22 years and it needs to be replaced.....it's still useable but it is fading in places and just plain wearing out.....it's time for a really good sale at JoAnn fabrics.
Mines will hold up but I am sure looking forward to a new one but I will save the old one ;D *2U
The one I have is at least that old also. and I have been happy with it. As long as i am not in danger of cutting my dining room table, I well keep using it.
I'm hoping that Joann's has a 50% (or more...:}...) off sale when I visit AZ in November. My mat also took exception to the heat in the back of my car and has a neat little wave in its middle. It also has some lines gauged into it and some of the printing is fading. I've used it like that for at least 20 years and it still has a lot of life in it... if I remember to miss the ruts and surf that wave.

Thanks for sharing ;> Mines has a wave too, I taped it down for a while and when I told the tape off, it rose again...LOL ;D *2U
My smaller ones got too much glue on them so I put them through the dishwasher cycle without very small amount of detergent. Came out very good.
I should replace mine. It was a hand me down from a very good friend when I first started quilting 12 years ago. She had it for about that long too, so it's pretty old. It has its special place in my sewing room and I almost hate to part with it. Guess I could cut it down and use the good parts. Carol
My husband just bought me a new one. I take the old ones, and cut them in half, One piece I cut in half again. I use the small ones all the time. My entire lower level of the house is my sewing studio, so I'm able to just leave them out on the tables. I wait for a 40% sale at Joann's to buy mine.
Sometimes they have them for 50% off too. At least nothing is wasted and everything gets used. Thanks for sharing ;D *2U
I,ve had mine for +-12 yrs, been well used but looks almost new.I lift it over my left arm so that it bends slightly. This opens the cuts made, and rub with a piece of cloth. This removes the fibers left behind from my cutting of the day. Batting leaves the most fibers behind.
I also leave it lying flat on my cutting table.
I do also have a small one but not used much.

Well, one of them got fried and warped till it was unusable when I left it in the trunk of my car. At the time, it wasn't widely known how susceptible to heat they were. Since then, no problem. I've had a few for about 20 years. They aren't too ratty yet.
Yes my husband has replaced his, infact we have a few, the oldest has been on the go for well over 20 years and is still usable.
I met a lady at the quilt show that said her husband does all her cutting for her wish I had a husband that could do that .
