About a year ago a German couple loved this place so much they asked the owner to buy his house so they did. They arrived yesterday! so now my Dh and I are not alone, the only small problem is she does not speak Spanish or English, he speaks a little bit of English so her husband is our translator. Oh! I forgot to tell you our community 's name is El Aleman (The German)

How wonderful even if you don't speak the same language. Your actions will speak louder than words anyway. Enjoy your neighbor.

German and English share the same grammatical structure, but many English words have Latin roots. Many German words are pretty familiar in English. I'm sure it will work out. Maybe she will take up embroidery----

Mary, I lived in Germany for 4yrs and the truth be German isn't to difficult if it is spoken slow and you listen to the words. A lot sound like English. What a great opportunity to learn another language. BUT... Even greater opportunity to introduce HER to another new language.. oh I mean a new outlet.... Embroidery. Best of all, get out your google translate or what you use to communicate with while you share your embroidery. :) Glad you aren't alone anymore.

That will be nice to have someone there all the time. Maybe the two of you could learn each other language.

A challenge to all but I am sure you will learn enough of each others language to communicate BUT if you intriduce her to your embroidery machine you wont need any language. Have fun with your new neighbours

We have so many words to choose from ~ couch/sofa; kleenex/tissue; cloths pin/pegs ~ it is endless. If you just keep exchanging similar things you might be able to make the language barrier work. Good Luck. There is always Rosetta Stone. Good time to learn a new language.
