I held my ground & called his honour into question because as far as I was concerned we had a verbal agreement on the offer we made and in good faith we had paid our .25% holding deposit and already spent $3,000 for inspections and surveys. He finally agreed to proceed on the price we offered and I immediately broke down in tears.

I've been so wound up about all this thinking we would lose the house.

Anyway, we should settle in 8 weeks, we allowed the vendor extra time in case he needed it. (Gee aren't I generous after he tried to sting us? LOL!)

So Cuties, we need a special name for our (soon to be) new home. It has to be something special, with a special meaning.

Like: new beginnings; special blessings; twilight years; golden years.......
I don't know, I don't have many ideas, I just know we'd love to give our home a special name.
It doesn't have to be in English, any language would be acceptable

Amy suggestions, anyone, please?

Hugs n love to all, Meganne

Glad you stood up to him, but sorry he put you through all the emotional stress....he should be ashamed and at least offered an apology for being greedy.
As for a name for your home the only thing I think would be "Serenity", a single word that says it all.
BTW...you need to have a packing party....invite all your friends and neighbors for a little work, fun and food. We did it as a joke years ago but it worked out great everything was done in just a few hours instead of the days it would have taken by ourselves. You'll be surprised how many friends and family members will be there. Have a blessed day.
Hugs n more

I think once you paid and he accepted the deposit on the house, he lost his position to accept other offers, and you could have sued him silly to proceed with the sale at the agreed to price. That was pretty obnoxious of that guy to press you for more. People are so greedy.

How about "Willow Waters" or "Willow Wind", or "Willow Wings"?
Trying to go with a willow and pond theme here;

Wow Meg congratulations to you and Ray on signing the contracts. It's all going well now.

My suggestions are Aboriginal -

Warrina - a place of rest
Walwa - a place of waters
Paringa - home at the river
Orana - welcome (Orana Paringa would be a nice combination wouldn't it "Welcome home at the river")
Mawarra and also Illoura - pleasant place
Karinya - peaceful home
Amarco - beautiful place

In Tasmania there is a town call Dootown and all the houses have do in their title e.g Thistledoo, It'll do, Dunny Do, You'll do, Gunadoo, This Will Doo, Doo Come In, Just Doo It, Love Me Doo, Much-A-Doo, and Doo-All. The first house name in the series was apparently Doo Little.

You could also make up a name from the people in your family. My mother and father's place would be called "Patron" as Mum's name is Pat and Dad's is Ron etc.

Anyway good luck on naming your new home - I'm sure you'll come up with something wonderful.

Love and blessings Chris

WOW thanks Chris, I love the Aboriginal names.

I supposed I could use Raymardul or Raydulmar, Mardulray, Marraydul, Dulraymar, Dulmarray, but that all seems too common.

I like Gunnadoo, I keep telling Ray he's a gunnadoo, gonna do this, gonna do that, he starts things and never finishes them. LOL!!!
I'm taking all the suggestions on board. And hopefully something, other than manna, will just stick.

Hello meganne, I am so happy for you two, I wish for you many years of hapiness here, I have seen the pictures, this house seems marvelous. There are many years ago, -46 exactely-my husband and me we had visited many houses, but when my husband shad seen our actual home, he has said: it is this one. We have been happy here, and now that I am alone, I do not imagine that I could live in another place. The name of this House was "les 4 vents" (the 4 winds), and we have leave this name to the house because this name was its since 1828, the year of his construction. But now, I know that its real name should have been "the paradise on earth" or "the house of hapiness", and that, we could not have found when we have boughtFor your house , I like the suggestion of twee: "sunshine", I think it agree very well with the pictures of your(soon)house

"weowner" was something a friend named her home. Took a while to get it. We own her. or we the owners.
Either way so long as it feels like home cause that is where the heart is. Helen

Congrats on the new home. It is beautiful. As for a name, how about playing with "The Ray of ..." Sunshine. Maybe Sunsine ... something. We have a large yard, that many have nicknamed "The Park," but I've never named my home. I need to do that. Did you get your mums place done?

Well Ray's ID was Abrightray and mine was LadyM when we met on RSVP, and he is my sunshine, hmmmm! I need to think harder.

We're still working long hours on Mum's, it's 9PM and we've just come home to have dinner.
We're both exhausted but the kitchen is looking great. :-)

the alpha and omega - the beginning and end

mops by mops 19 Aug 2010

A weeping willow has always been my dream. When I was at primary school I passed a bridge, and next to it was a most luxurious house (I've seen better since, but compared to where we lived it was the ultimate) and at the end of the lawn was a weeping willow. I love the way it was reflected in the water of the canal, the way the colour of the leaves changed over the year.
And hated the branches in winter when you tripped over them when skating - the middle of the canal being unusable because of ice breakers that had kept it open as long as possible.

psssst by psssst 19 Aug 2010

The first mothers day after my mom passed away I planted a weeping willow in her remembrance, I love them too.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 19 Aug 2010

Heavenly Rewards #2 Not so romantic but it sure fits! Redeeming Rewards. Meganne's Safe Haven Close to heaven Redeeming Grace Amazing Grace
You have been blessed by the Lord and although you gave your all to getting well and encouraged all of us during that time also, You had help from above. Through his Love and Grace you can now enjoy this beautiful life and your dream home. That is my reason for these names. You have earned every second of happiness that blesses your life. The home is beautiful as well as the location. If it makes you happy, I am happy for you! Like was said in another post, we do not usually name our houses here in the U.S. but there are exceptions to every standard even here. Usually it is the rich that do name their estates or their vacation homes but what you feel in your heart will be your final choice. It is a beautiful dream of yours come true! Our ideas could never touch what you feel in your heart. Be happy and enjoy it every minute that you can. You have worked hard to get to this point in your life and maybe by the time you get moved in, you will have a feel for the place and the Name will come naturally to you. God does not just give us these kind of things. We have to earn them through the Lord. You have been so UP through all of your illness and treatments and you have kept the Faith. You earned everything that you have been awarded, the most important being in good health. My blassings to you and your whole family! Linda

Glad that you have your home, I know how you felt, I went through the same scenario many years ago, unfurtunally my was not a happy ending, we had a verbal agreement my husband wanted to give some money to hold the house, and I remember she(owner) told us her words were more that enough, I went to her house, asked her set a date, when she told me she already sold the house to an investor!!!!, not even a family, I went home crying like a baby Not even she did not keep her word but sold the house to company not a family.

Glad all is going well and you are so fortunate to have a husband for knowledgeable support.I had to build the home I am presently living in all by my self. I look back on the whole experience now and I know that God was right there with me every step of the way, from selecting the land to build on ,all the way to closing and moving in. Just take your time and every thing will fall in place and pray along each step of the way. Kay

My daughter and I do a lot of brain storming for different things, We take one word and then play upon it. So I went back and looked at your pictures and the beautiful splendor of the back facing the river/lake and this is what I came up with. Maybe you will like them, Beautiful Splendor, Great Splendor, God's Splendor, Home of Splendor, Bountiful Splendor, Beginnings of Splendor, Golden Splendor, House of Splendor, Splendor Cottage, Eternal Splendor, Splendor Abound, Birthday Splendor, (HEHEHE)Hopefully this will help give you some ideas.

Splendiferous!!! :-)

You know it is also peaceful and serene there and I felt a great calm come over me while we were there today. (maybe it was relief after he (vendor) gave in.) LOL!!!

Did I mention there was three families of ducks on the back lawn when we went to see the house the first time?

But no, I don't think I'll call it "duck garden" in case people think it's a command! LOL!!!
Thanks for the ideas, Hugs n roses, Meganne

Congratulations! We do not name our homes here in the USA. Well maybe the rich and famous hahaha. Is that a common practice where you live? I know some people that are fortunate enough to have a vacation cottage will sometimes name those. Do you make a shingle for it? Does it become part of the house address?
Names I think are appropriate are:
Faith
Eternal Life
Blessings Abound
Grace
Hallelujah!
Blessed with Miracles

psssst by psssst 17 Aug 2010

I just read your post with the house photos over again and your last words in a reply was:

Dreams, it's what life is all about

meganne by meganne 17 Aug 2010

Some people name their homes, I guess it just depends how happy your home makes you feel.
I think some of the large states the name will become part of the address, but it would depend more on whether or not you started the idea by using it yourself.

Hmmm! some more to think about, it is truly a reward to be blessed with a second chance and to be able to spend our waning years in such a beautiful setting, surely is more than I could ever have hoped for, it is a dream come true. Thanks for the ideas. hugs n roses, Meganne

Congratulations! You seem really thrilled about all this, we'd love to move but can't afford to after 31 years here. We have had a few scares here, neighbor's house broken into right after I spotted a guy just standing at my enclosed porch looking in till I flew out there and confronted him. Think he was gonna walk in thinking nobody was home! I was watching through a window with sheers on it.
Anyway, for a name, how about "Almost Heaven".

meganne by meganne 17 Aug 2010

I know how terrifying a prowler can be, I had one in my house once and it took me ages before I felt safe again.

"Almost Heaven" makes me think of a grand staircase going up to the clouds.
Thanks for that idea it will be the start of the Cutie's list.

Yes Kez, the vendor is a retired solicitor, (no flies on him) and some of the things he said I felt he was just downright lying.
He said the agent hadn't told him of our offer or that we had paid a holding deposit and I don't believe that for an instant.
Any way, he relented and he can't back out now, it's all a matter of time.
I'll take all the suggestions I can get for a name, this is important to me.
I may even be able to combine suggestions to come up with one.Hugs n love Meg
