My adapter came with a 64mB card which I find plenty big enough. Your question makes me wonder how you use your card - I only put designs I intend to use fairly soon on mine so it doesn't get too clogged up. My big bank of designs is on my PC organised in folders by type (flowers, animals, text etc) so I can find them. I have a folder called card into which I put a copy of any new design that I want to try out very soon, then, when I have time, I load them onto the card so I can play! I also delete all of the designs every few weeks. The original copy of each design is safely stored away in its own category on my PC which is backed up quite frequently. Hope that helps.
I don't use my card to store a ton of designs-at one time I might have 10 designs-max- and I delete when I am done with them. I would just like to have an extra one or two-for the reason stated earlier. I also keep my designs in folders on my computer.I asked about the bigger cards because that is what I have seen in the stores-32MB or 64MB was not available in the stores that I checked-salespeople actually recommend that I check online-go figure-they want business and send you to the internet lol.
Almost anywhere that sells batteries, electronics, film, cameras should have the cards (widely varying prices) For example, Radio Shack, Best Buy, Staples, Office Max, Target, CVS and similar "drug stores", larger grocery stores, and so on. For size you will have to check your manual or the Janome site or elsewhere on the web if no cutie comes on to answer - I have a Viking.
Good luck and Hugs, Lois
Just saw jjames answer that came in while I was typing. I was assuming that it took a "standard" size card like Compact Flash, Smart Media, that other electronics and cameras also use. Unfortunately for me, my Viking is older and uses a proprietary card, because of the small volume made, any of the special size proprietary cards are $$$$.
I have checked some of the local stores- 32MB is like a dinosaur-I did just find some @ Amazon for about $14-stores have mostly larger sizes(quite honestly the giga, mega lingo is pig latin to me lol)
Linda,
I also have a Janome 9700 and use the 32MD card. There is no need to use a bigger one. There are only a small number of design your machine will recognized at a time. The 32MD is still big compared to what you really need. I bought mine a few years ago on ebay. I bought two and one adapter for less than $15 dollars. Since then, I've looked at them at a local Sewing and Vacuum cleaner store in my area. They now stock Janome 32MD cards for $50.00--outrageous!!!! So check ebay.

OUCH!!- I think my original was a throw in with my machine to be honest with you. I just thought it would be nice to have an extra few-for"just in case" or for those times when one card is in the machine and I want to load in another design-you know what I mean? Thanks for your response jjames ~~linda~~
Linda, great question. I have a brother so I, unfortunately can't help you. But it will be interesting to see the answers.Terre
