What I find concerning while reading the comments in this topic is that once you do find the 'right bobbin thread' to make your machine work, what happens when you want to do some FSL stitching where you need to use the same thread in the bobbin as you use on the top so that the FSL looks the same on both sides?
You need to be able to be versatile in your choice of threads used in the bobbin.
I still think you need to return the machine to Walmart and ask to speak to someone in authority if the desk clerks can't help you with a good replacement.

You could use bobbin thread in the bobbin for FSL and 40 weight embroidery thread for the top thread.
The lace design would just be softer and not quite so full or thick looking.
But the problem is that this will only work if you can get the colors of bobbin thread that you wnat to use for the FSL.
If there is not aq problem use the 40 weight embroidery thread for both the top and bobbin threads.
I do think this machine needs to be looked at or returned.
I also think leenova54 like all of us when starting out with a new machine needs to learn about her machine and also about stabilizing and using the correct stabilizers for different fabrics, applications and the number of stitches in a design and using the correct threads.

As for FSL, I can use the reg embroidery thread top and bottom and it seems to work fine but I have only done one that wasn't with the cotton type bobbin thread because I did white ornaments. I did one blue bird that turned out fine.
I should get the bobbin thread in the mail on Tuesday that another cutie is sending me and if that doesn't solve the problem the machine goes back in the box and back to the store.
There are 2 different weights of Bobbin Thread for the Brother Machines.
A 60 weight and a 90 weight.
the 60 weight comes on a white spool.
The 90 weight comes on a green spool.
Different models use different weights of bobbin thread.
Here are a few websites that show the Brother Bobbin Threads in the 2 weights and they say which Brother machines models they are for.

Yeah, what I bought from the embroidery shop inside Joann's that is not part of Joann's came on a blue small cone style. She said it works fine on Brother. Also, another cutie is sending me a spool that came with her machine that she hadn't used. I had an occasional problem with the bobbin thread that came with my machine but not like this. You can't find Brother products around here so I will have to order it if I need to.
Which Brother machine model do you have?

SE-350 ran to Joann's for better bobbin thread and so far I can't tell but it isn't looking great yet. Gotta get it off the machine to tell, I am stitching one of the snowflake names on felt. Fingers crossed, the woman in the embroidery section of Joann's (they are an outside company set up in Joann's) said this thread would work.
I also have a Brother machine. I was having problems with the bobbin thread coming to the top. I took it to my Brother dealer and had it checked out. Could not find any problems with it and said I should use the pre wound bobbins as they are wound tighter. I have been using the prewound since then and am not having any problems. The only time I wind my own is if I want the bobbin the same color as my thread. Joyce
Others have said not to use the prewound ones because they have too much thread on them, lol, I can't win for losing. Actually I think I am using the wrong kind of bobbin thread but I am using it up right now doing FSL Christmas ornaments till I can get the right kind of bobbin thread. There is no Brother dealer in my area, on the Brother site I put in "within 100 miles" and still got nothing. Thanks and have a flower! *
Debra - Bobbin thread is finer than the coloured embroidery thread. However, you should be able to use normal embroidery thread in the bobbin as well for when you do free standing lace or when you want the back to look the same colour as the front of any design.
You don't need a special stand for the big cones. If you do get one, stand it in a coffee jar, or similar tall jar, at the back of your machine away from the working hoop. Then you should be able to thread the machine over the top and into the tension discs as usual. If you do have a thread guide near the top of the machine that will help.
I have an 8-spool thread holder which attaches to the back of my machine but it won't hold the big cones so I use the coffee jar idea.
Also are you saying that Walmart will not back up their sales or products???!!! You should be able to return that machine and get a replacement that works. Have you spoken to someone in authority at Walmart? Have you told that person that you have done all that you can to make it work properly, including getting professional advice, but the machine is obviously faulty? Even low-end machines should work for much longer than yours has done.
There might be someone at JoAnn's who will take you under her wing and give you some help and that's worth a try but in the long run it is Walmart's responsibility to ensure that their products at least work properly.
I do wish I could help you but I'm in South Australia, near the South Pole!!! If you lived near my daughter in AZ I know she'd help you.

Oh my, I started working on FSL Christmas ornaments this evening to use up the wrong bobbin thread. What I bought this time was not as thin or shiny so that has to be the problem. Thanks for the tip on using a jar or can to hold the larger spools.
As for Walmart, I have not tried to return the machine yet and no store would stop me from doing it, I am a little pit bull when I get mad, lol. I once had to return a VCR that didn't work to an electronics store and they didn't have any of that one left but tried to sell me a more expensive one instead, when I said no they said I had to pay a 10% restocking fee. Well, I started a scene there, I started yelling that you can't charge me to restock a VCR that doesn't work and you have no more of them and I will not wait while you send it out to repair. Well, the manager went into the back room, came out and threw my paperwork at the clerk and said, "Just give her the money back!".
Inside JoAnn's they have another company with really expensive machines and the one lady was quite rude when I stopped and asked some questions. Then another lady was there and she was nicer and answered a couple of things for me but now that company is out and a new one has come in, they don't even carry my size of bobbins. The regular JoAnn clerks don't seem to know much at all about machine embroidery.
I am sure that once I get the right bobbin thread things will settle down for me.
I have a Babylock. It only likes "Finishing Touch" bobbin thread. I can not help but think that these machines are set-up at the factory to only use certain bobbin threads. I know of some machines that will use any kind of bobbin thread. Do you have two different bobbin cases? I have one that has a pink dot on it and one that has a green dot. I was told to use a different bobbin thread that I would need to use the case with the green dot. Have you tryed this? H&*
I forgot to suggest to try turning your speed to it's lowest speed. Maybe that will help. H&*
I only have one bobbin case and I have never changed out of the lowest speed yet, too scared of it, lol!
I too have a Baby Lock machine, ESE2 I can use Coats & Clark, Finishing Touch or just about any so far. I am needing to buy some bobbin thread soon.
the ESE2 will dew just abbout any of the threads I had one and completely wore it out.

I have used Coats and Clark also with no problems for about 8 months, now all of a sudden this happens and frustrates me to no end!
Can't help with a Brother machine. But my Janome caused me no end of problems when I used Madeira bobbin thread - with the bobbin thread showing on the front side. Then I changed to Janome bobbin thread, and no more problems. I think that Mareira bobbin thread is thicker than Jamone bobbin thread. Hope this helps you with sorting your problem.
Thanks, I think it is the bobbin thread for sure, gonna change that first chance I get to order some on line. Need Brother or Finishing Touch.
I too have a Brother and searched for bobbin thread. Not Just Threads has both class L and 15A pre-wound bobbins. I have not bought pre-wound bobbins yet for my machine. I have read several posts from other sites that the Brother machines do not like pre-wound bobbins. If I can find the articles I will post them as I get the time.
Thanks, I will check there, I have heard that about pre-wound also so I am not planning to try them at this point. I am still very new to machine embroidery. Got my machine for Christmas but have so far mostly only done tee towels.
Hi,
I see you have a lot suggestions.
Last week I had this problem the first time too.
It was the problem that I made the bobbin to full.
My machines (Janome 9700 and 11000)don't like too small bobbins, I buy pre wound and use the plastik bobbins from Singer or Janome. As thread I can use what ever I want - I use many times a thread for bobbins which is to weak for using at the top, like some kinds of rayon r metallic.
Did you remove the bobbin case completely? Sometimes there is a small thread inside, this was also my problem last week. I saw it at least as I removed the bobbincase and cleansed.
Another thing what happens after a long tme of using is, that the presure of the bonnbincase is too loose. There should be a very tiny screw at the front of the bobbincase.
I really wish you can embroider soon! I can feel how frustrating it is to waste time and thread.
Blessings
Bärbel
removed the case and blew into it and look around it really well. I just bought a can of air so I am going to blow it all out before I use it again.
Wish you good success!
After solving this problems you will know your machine a bit better.
I get my bobbins prewound on ebay and they are terrific. never had a problem. I did buy from a different seller and they weren't as good. This lady sells all sizes i think, you can check her out at the link below. I don't know her personally I'm just a customer ;-)
You need to be using bobbin thread. My 2 Brother machines only like Brother of Finishing Touch bobbin thread. Trying switching to one of these if you can...Barb
I will have to look for that, so far only have bought anything (other than the machine from Walmart) at JoAnn's.
I use Marathon 100 or Madeira 120 embroidery bobbin thread on 10,000 m cones.
I don't have a stand for big cones yet, after the machine, thread, stabilizer, a bunch of dish towels to work on, PED-Basic and...............money got pretty tight!
I have a Brother and I use either Brother bobbin thread or Finishing Touch. Both are 60 weight.
Wow, you really need to be using bobbin embroidery thread, so do rush on out and check. Hopefully your problems will be solved.
My janome 10001 will only sew nicely with either janome or brother brand bobbin thread (and there are two weights of brother so it has to be the right one) I also have a brother 4000d and it seems to prefer brother bobbin thread.
I think it must depend on the machine or something because some people seem to be able to use other brands with no problems, but my machines must be fussy. The satin stitches won't stitch nice, the bobbin thread pulls to the top etc etc if I use other bobbin threads. However I have several brands of embroidery thread and they all work fine, it is the bobbin thread that upsets the apple cart for me.
Debra, this is true, for embroidery bobbin, you need a thinner thread. I get mine from the dealer here locally. My manual has a caution and states that if bobbins from other models are used, the macine will not operate correctly. It suggest part code: X53800-150. I hope this will help you some. I buy mine prewound saves me the trouble of making sure it gets wound properly... Terre
I can't find prewound for the SA 15 bobbins. I haven't used any bobbin that did not come with my machine so I have the right bobbin, just maybe not the right bobbin thread for now. Shopping soon is a must! Boy I wish you lived in Canton Ohio, lol!!!!
Brother bobbin thread should be a #60 .. I was at the dealer yesterday and that is what they recommend .. I tried it and it works great.. my threads were coming to the top also..
I bought my machine at Walmart so they are no help at all. The bobbin thread I got says M 202 500m 100% Polyester so I don't know what the # is. Guess I will have to do a shopping trip and check into things. I looked on line and ebay and can't find pre-wound bobbins for my machine, it takes the 15 SA bobbins and I can only find L.
Are you dealing with an actual Brother dealer or with a support person on the telephone? It makes a difference. If it's a Brother dealer, take the machine in to them and ask them to embroider something with the bobbin thread they recommend...if it still happens, then it is not the thread. Often times tech support on a telephone will blame anything they can think of so they don't have to deal with a problem, sorry...but it happens all too often.
I am dealing with the Brother website. From their site I searched for a Brother service person and even when I put in within 100 miles it gave me none.
you are better off to go to a dealer and take the machine with you and they will tell you what is wrong soon.
I had that happen to me once and I had a bobbin that went on my kenmore sewing machine.I some how got them mixed up.

I have a Brother Innovis 700E, and it will only successfully use Brother Embroidery Bobbin thread #90. Available here on 1000m reels. Expensive way to go, but have tried all sorts, brands, etc., and only have problems. I also have an old Brother Galaxie II, and can use anything in the bobbin. Hope this helps.
I have an Innovis Duetta 4500. I was using the wrong bobbin case. One has a green dot and the other a pink one. The pink one is for prewound bobbins. Made a huge difference.
Mine is a low end Brother and only has one bobbin case so I can't make a mistake there.
i have a brother innovis 700E, started to jam, had to cut the design out. got repaired but still not 100%, only ever used brother cotton, the place in warwick where i had my machine repaired seems to think it's my designs (designs i have used many times). i bought some brother cotton from them MADE IN INDIA all my other cotton MADE IN JAPAN do brother have cotton from india? maybe this is my problem thanks Donna
I didn't buy any thread from Brother. The bobbin thread I have been using is made in Germany. But it seems there is bobbin thread and then there is machine embroidery bobbin thread. MIGHT be my problem, not sure yet.
