The Designer 1 machine requires the SHV format to stitch the design.
One Designer 1 machine requires a Floppy Disk the other Designer 1 machine requires USB Sitck to transfer the design to the machine in the SHV format.
The SHV format is usually written to the floppy disk or the USB Stick through the use of the Disk Manager Program which is part of the Husqvanva/Viking Software.
There are other programs that will write the SHV format for the Floppy Disk and for the USB Stick Machine.
Embird (the basic program) will write to a Floppy Disk for the Designer 1.
Sew What and the Sew What Pro programs will also write the SHV format to Floppy disk.
You would have to check and make sure that these programs would write to the USB stitck for the Designer 1.
All 3 will write to a Floppy disk for the Designer 1.
Sew What Pro and Sew What Programs are lower in price than Embird.
The SHV design format is made up of several files along with the design file. All these make up the SHV Design file and have to be written in a sequence to the Floppy disk or the USB Stick in order for the machine to read the design file and stitch it out.
If you have the H/V Software you can download any format with the exception of the Art format and Pes format Version 5 or higher and the Disk Manager program will read these formats and then convert them and write them in SHV format for the Designer machine Disk or USB Stick.
And if you use Embird or Sew What or the Sew What Pro programs they too will read any of these other formats and write them in the SHV format for the Designer 1 machine.
So you would be able to download designs in the HUS, VIP, Pes up to version 5, PCS, EXP, DST, XXX, VIP3 (newest H/Vformat) formats and then use the H/V Disk Manager program or Embird or Sew What or Sew What Pro to read these formats and write them to the Disk or USB Stick for the Designer 1 machine.
The newest version of the H/V software can read the VIP3 format but the older Version of the H/V software will only read VIP not VIP3.
**You can download and store your designs in any of these formats on your computer and you would only need to put them through the conversion software like Disk Manager or Sew What or Sew What Pro or Embird when you want to stitch the actual design out on your Designer 1 machine
This is not a complicated process.
Do you know if the Designer 1 machine that you are thinking about buying has the Floppy disk or the USB Stick that goes into the machine for the designs?
Does the machine come with and Husqvarna/Viking Software?
If so what version and module of the H/V software

I am going tomorrow to the dealer to look at this machine. I know it has USB stick and dealer told me it came with software and he would explain more when I look at it. Thank you for this info. Mary
The format for the Husqvarna software is hus, vip or vp3, BUT you have to load it on the disk (if yours uses that) in their 3D DiskManager - which converts it to shv when writing it. So you are right, if you don't have the Husqvarna software you need .shv
Embird also allows you to export a design (any format) to a Husqvarna disk or USB stick - and automatically writes it as a shv-file.
I don't know if Buzz Explore can do that as well. Have you had a look at the 'export design' possibilities?
I think after this explanation that my Buzz Explore will export to the USB stick. Thank you for the input. Mary
I have the 4d embroidery pkg but your machine will read hus, pes, vip, vp3 and several others without bothering to convert. A really cool feature of this great machine. Needless to say it's what I have and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
Hi, I also have a Designer 1 and I only can use HUS and DST.
To change your formats you can use the Pulse-program by Ambassador.
Maybe it depends at the dongle you use?
I have a husqvarna designer 1 and it use HUS format, I do not understand why not for you, have you try, have you disk or USBon this machine?
Just curious, but why on earth wouldn't any Husqvarna embroidery machine use HUS format? That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Of course, I just figured HUS was an abbreviation of Husqvarna. Maybe I was wrong.
You would need the 4d/5d software package that has the disk manager to change hus vip to the
shv format for the machine or
Embird will convert to shv format for the Designer 1 machine
