enadutton, what a great job you did on your napkins. I love the designs. They are almost too pretty to use.
If you want the back to look as nice as the front of the napkin then use the same thread in the top and the bobbin.
Do you have any software that you could decrease the density of the design if you think it is too dense?
Test the design on a similar fabric or go to a goodwill store and see if you can find a few napkins of similar weight fabric.
Testing the design first will show you how the design stitches out on them and if you need the density adjusted
You could use a Tear Away or a Tear Away Wash Away.
You could use more than 1 layer if need be.
Hope this helps you.

Yes I have embroidered dense designs on napkin corners, since my design was only four colors I made sure each bobbin was the same color as the top, this way they looked pretty on both sides. I also used a mesh tear-a-way. I made a tracing of the first one and then placed the tracing on the corner of the second napkin this way they all looked the same. Good Luck
I stitched napkins I got from Kohl that were heavier, I used a tear away stabilizer. It was fairly easy. I'm not sure I could do what Martine did, but you definitely need to practice before the actual ones. :)Terre

I did 9 for my neighbour a fortnight ago. The napkins were a high quality cotton damask. The design was not to dense, but the satin stitch of the names might give an uneven result on the thin(ner) material. In that case I starch them first. Now I only used a single layer of stabiliser - a tear away. The back was fairly tidy, but due to the names the front was definitely the side to watch.
Make sure to do a test first. Success!
thanks to all of you who took the time to answer me, some good suggestions, I have some thinking to do on them.
