the site. I am looking for the poem so I can do something with it for my son to give his Dad. He is a big history buff and a Flanders and I am sure that I heard him speak of it back when we were married a centry ago. My son has racked his brain about what to get for his Dad and I thought he might like to see this and than he could decide if he wants me to do something for him(son).heehee. I also do some calligraphy and I could just print out the poem and paint a poppy on the paper. Anything to save my son some money! He taking care of a wife, a MIL, a grown step daughter that just left her partner of many years and their 2 little boys. The step daughter has gone back to school to be a RN so she and her boys are going to be there for awhile!! His MIL is in very bad shape and unless they are forced to put her in a nursing home, she will be there until the end. She is very old, frail, and has died 3 times this year and the Dr's have brought her back 3 times. She hardly goes a week without having to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance so it is very hard on him, money-wise. Gail is still trying to hold down her part-time job but things are looking bad there! Somebody has to be there with the boys, 2 and 4 and with her Mom at all times. The boy's Mom is also working part-time and going to school everyday. He has his hands full and his pockets empty!

Glad you got it Linda. I remember In Flanders Fields was a poem that we were required to memorize & recite for a grade when I was in 6th grade at Union Elementary School there in Macon, Ga. /Lillian

Lillian and Kay, thanks for the interest and Kay for your offer last night to help. If I don't get off of the computer and on my sewing machine, I am not going to get anything done! heehee Lillian when you get started about, it brings back alot of memories! I am so ready to get back home to familar friends and faces. I started looking for a place to live yesterday. I have family and friends helping me look long distance. I called and talked to a couple of people yesterday. I have been up here in the Atlanta area for 3 years and have been all by myself for most of the time. Being physically handicapped makes it hard to get out and meet new friends, oh heck, it makes it hard to do anything! I hope this is the last year that I have to be here. It is sooo hard to pack and move and I never wanted to have to do it again but I get tired of my only company being my furbabies. Don't get me wrong, I love my girls and they are good company but it is so hard to carry on a conversation with them.I CAN understand what they are saying but it is certainly a one sided conversation. I don't think I am crazy yet but what I just said sounds like it! I wanna go home!

Fabric Affair has poppies with a USA Flag on a pole. The poem is under the design on the Web page but isn't part of the design itself.

"lflanders" and this design has given me some inspiration as both of my parents are buried at Arlington National Cementary with Honors. My father received a Army funeral and my mother received a Marine funeral. Will try to do something with the design and poem.

The poem and the story behind it are very touching! Glad you found it interesting. Maybe you can use this also for a gift for your parents. Everyone that answered has been some help for my project.

Maybe you thought of this? Don't really understand if this is just a ready stitched card or if they offer the design. Sorry my english is too bad :o(
At embroiderdesigns there is a pooy with the first words around in a circle.
Hope you find what you need :o)
Greetings, Bettina

Linda, scrigbys.com has a FSL poppy in four parts - that they call Flander's Poppy - it might be fun to arrange a bouquet of them - if you are going to put the poem in a frame and put around the outside edge or in a vase.

The European wild poppy, made famous by the World War I poem, "In Flanders Fields" was free in the month of May 2010 at Embroidery Library.

In Flanders Fields and Other Poems

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
