Well I took it in today, and you will never believe what they found. LOL My tension was bad on top. Yup you guessed it. I had thread fragments, (a lot of them) in the machine. I read all the comments on how to take your thread off the machine. I know you are to cut it. Pull the part out by the needle, and the spool off. Well I was busy, NOT PAYING ATTENTION I guess and I have been pulling the thread up and out with the spool. Guess I pay attention from now on.

I also have been told that all of my life......

And I read somewhere that a good way to clean out loose threads is to thread the machine with a good length of dental floss and pull it through toward the needle. I haven't tried it though so can't say for sure whether it works or not.

I tried with a thicker thread - the ones meant to sew on buttons - it works well.

It sure is hard to change what you've been doing for years, I didn't listen either!!! I am happy that they solved your problem. Hugs, Judy

Glad to hear your machine is better and I expect you will try to look after it better. I know that the thread should be removed via the needle BUT there are times I forget and pull up ...
What sort of machine do you have?

That was one of the first lessons I was taught when I got my new Janome. I guess it is more important now with all the electronic reading it has to do than the old mechanical machines of yesteryear. I remove thread from the needle now and have a beautiful tall jar with lots of layered thread to prove it....it will be made into a new mesh fabric later this month. I can't hardly wait to try this again. Did this years ago, but just pulled threads off the spool then....
