Good Morning everyone. If a design says it is cross stitch. Does that mean it has to be done on cross stitch material, or is that just the look it has? Thanks in advance for answering. Iva

When doing XXX stitch, you have alot of thread changes and sometimes the threads will get piled up and the stitches won't be as pretty if you do not keep the threads clipped very good as you do the design. XXX looks beautiful done with a machine as long as you keep all the threads clipped as you sew. I usually wait until I am finished with a reg design to snip all of the threads but with XXX it is much prettier if you try to snip them with some tiny scissors or snips as you go.

It is just the look as crossstitch, you can use any material and the effect is great, look at this towel as an example. Good luck

It just has the look of a hand-stitched crossstitch design...a series of criss-cross stitches...and like Shirlene stated, it is fabulous that you can get that heirloom look on any type of material with these types of designs. Have fun! ~Rita

You could do it on XS material, but you are not limitied to just that sort of fabric - you can stitch it on anything you want - that is the joy of embroidery - do what you want and feel like doing.
