Lena Mae, I am so sorry. I know how much it hurts! I just lost my almost 15 yr old Pekingese in August. she had been with me since the minute she was born. Your heart will break for awhile but with time you will feel better. You need to go on and adopt a baby that needs a home badly. You could save a life by going ahead and finding another to fill the void. Hobie can never be replaced but another will melt your heart and you will know as soon as you lay your eyes on the right one. I found my 4 yr. old Pekingese on Petfinders.com and I fell in love before I ever met her. She has such a beautiful smile and she is just as happy as her big smile! With my health problems and now being cripple, she puts the smile on my face as soon as I open my eyes in the morning. She is now beginning to grow out of her wild energetic puppy stage and has turned into a snuggle bunny! She is laying on top of my right foot as I type. There is a new girl in the house now but she is 6 yrs old and very set in her ways. They get along great and do run and play sometimes. 2 days after I lost my other Peke, my grand-daughter came to the door wanting me to take her 6 yr old Min-Pin. She and her son's 2 & 4, just left their home and moved back in with my son and his wife with the boys. My DIL hates animals and refused to let her keep the dog in her house. My son married her and her family 2 yrs ago. He is an animal lover as I am but would do anything to keep the little wife happy. She is a good person and if that is the only fault I can find in her, I will keep quiet. I have the dog now but I think my step grand-daughter will want her back when she finds a place of her own. She has a very rocky life every since she met this guy and they have been together the biggest part of 15 yrs but I think this was the final straw. She is making a life of her own, even going back to school to be a RN. My son loves being a PaPa to all three of his step grands but the youngest girl and the 2 boys are going to be in the house for a good while! Oh, his mother-in-law also lives with them. He is getting a very big taste of married life, grand-daughters, and grand-children early on! Their 2nd anniversary is Sunday! This is his first marriage. He did it and knew what he was getting into before he walked down the isle! He hardly has time to even go to the bathroom in peace! heehee

By the way, someone needs to check into this bigger dog and see if he/it is a danger to other animals and/or children or if it was just a freak accident. If it is a danger to small animals, it could also be a danger to sm children. Hugs to you, Linda

I was told he killed a nother little one in the neighbor hood but the people from animal control told us as long as the dog is on his property when they come out they can not do any thing. bommer.

I,too am so sad for you and the loss of Hobie. What a horrible experience for you to go through. Our fur babies are such a big part of our lives. We love ours dearly and although we still have three and a cat, our hearts still cry for those waiting at The Rainbow Bridge.
I hope the days ahead become a little easier for you and your family.

I'm sorry I couldn't answer earlier but your post distressed me so much.

I will never understand the stupidity and recklessness of some people who own dogs, but who should never be allowed to, in fact these kind of people don't deserve to breathe! Yes, they really do make me so very angry!
They are responsible for the innocent animals they turn into killers, there is absolutely no need or reason to breed (interbreed) dogs to be savage other than the idiot mentality of such morons.

I used to own and breed the (much maligned) Bull Terriers and unlike some mongrel owners who bragged about what their dogs were capable of, our Bullies shared our home, very amicably, with three cats and my two sons (from newborn 'till their teens). They also got acquainted with my two horses when we finally bought a property to accommodate all of us.
We raised them with love and discipline and it was a joy to see a huge 80lb Bull Terrier curled up on the lounge with two of the cats usually snuggled up alongside him.

I am so truly sorry for what has happened to your baby, I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive the dog and put the blame fairly on the animal who owns it.

Hugs and love, Meganne

Lena Mae, I'm so sorry to hear about Hobie...It is heart breaking when you lose a pet that is like your children. I think we all can relate to what you are going through as far as the loss, but how horrible to deal with the circumstance of the loss. I hope action will be taken for the other dog. As someone mentioned, if it happened to one dog, it can happen to children too. Even though dogs don't have souls, God still cares for you during this grieving process. Don't wait too long to find another one to love. Not as a replacement, but one to build new memories with. Hugs, Terre

You and your family will also have many memories of Hobie as well. I've included a link to a special poem on pet loss as well. Hugs, Charlotte

Lena Mae dear, I know your loss of Hobie will be so very difficult to get through - I wanted to post a picture of her - one you sent me awhile ago - I hope you don't mind - everyone needs to see this special love of yours.

Isn't she a beauty - I knew how much your loved Hobie the day you sent me this picture - she will always be this lovely in my eyes, as I am sure she is in yours.

You might check out this website - it has some great tips.

Always Love,

Oh, Lena Mae, my heart goes out to you for the loss of Hobie in such an awful way. I agree with Jennybell. With time the hurt will go away, but that doesn't mean you will forget him and the funny things he did to make you smile. I've lost 2 beloved dogs to old age and mourned for a long time. I found that making a photo album dedicated to each dog with all of the photo memories helps me to remember the wonderful times. Don't wait too long to get another dog, not to replace Hobie (because you can't), but in honor of him and the wonderful joy and happiness he brought you.

So sorry to hear about your sweet little dog...just know that if she was hurt that bad, she is better off not suffering....just remember all the good times and have a family get together to celebrate and remember her life with your family. We did this for our children many years ago when their pet died including a burial and they really got into it and it helped them a lot. Our daughter was talking about the funeral not too many weeks ago when she was visiting and asked if the rocks were still there. Yes they are......May God give you peace and
reassurance during this sad time.
