Today was my (5..)th birthday.

I tought after having so much work and trouble and what ever I need some rest.
So - I had the courage to not invite all my family!

Only my children were here and only for dinner for about three hours.
All the day I did what I wanted - look here and there, phone was off, searched for some nice chrismas designs, talked with some nice neighbours, went to the shop beside us to buy icecream for dinner.
My hubby bought the food from the chinese restaurant for the dinner.
So - I had nothing to do for this day as to be myself.

It was the most relaxed birthday I ever had.

I'm always the cook in all the family, our house is big - so everybody is welcome at all time, and they come. My family is big and they love to come together, as I do.

But for this year we have a lot of special events, 80th of my mother, 60th of my husband and three more I'm involved. So I thought it's enough to enjoy outside my birthday.

Did you try to take a "party-off" for yourself?
It's great!

Hope you are not shocked about this "selfishness"

Thanks to all of you!

I will think about some great ideas!
Once a month a day off - sounds very nice! I planned it, but it doesn't work. May be I'd write it in my schedule calender to make it "alive"!

Flowers for all of you back.

Comforting to read that more of you do it this way.
In the late evening my hubby mentioned that he also want this kind of birthday, an evenin only with me outside, it's before christmas and we can invite all the family for holy night as we did all years he said.

Barbel! Happy belated birthday.
We all need a "Mental Health Day" I do it once a month on my birth day (19). I don't think it is selfish at all. My husband thinks it's wonderful.
gives me a chance to refresh. I go and do what I want all day, and at night we go out to dinner. It is a nice treat.
many happy returns.
Sukiray.

Barbel, I always take my b'day off. Sometimes I forget its my birthday as does most others. hehehe...It's your birthday and you have a RIGHT to do it YOUR way. That is not being selfish at all... Especially when you do for others all the time... Good for you... Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday. We always celebrate our birthdays doing what we want to do. The only ones we really celebrate, are the grands. I guess when you are in your 60's and the kids are in late 30's and early 40's we and they don't want to be reminded of our age. It is just nice to go for a quiet dinner and enjoy a lovely evening with my husband.

Selfish. Absolutely not. I think it was the bestest birthday present that you can give to yourself. Remember what a wonderful day it was for you this year and do it again next year. HMMM, is it ok to do this for one day every month?
