Thank you for bringing this back to the top. I keep having issues with my thread breaking and I think this will fix it. I have tried the nets on my thread but it doesn't seem to work - thread still travels fast and knots up - so between my thread stand and this tip I just might be able to embroider successfully now.
Thank you for the tip! I will be sure to try it next time I have problems.
Thank you for this tip...such a small word for big problem solvers...... I will put peanuts in my stash, too!
That was an excellent tip, I must try that. yesterday I try to embroidered some teebags, and for one were you normaly need 45 min. I spend almost 2 houres. The thread was breaking every few minutes..it was a bad expirience because I have to make 65 teebag´s ...You can imagine
I thought to bring this back for those who have not seen this tip.
I've used Velco with much success for knotting threads and for keeping the tension stable since I embroider on a Futura ce250. Just tape the edges of a long thin strip of "teeth sided" velcro crosswise on the machine top. Lay the thread on top of it and then stick a small velcro strip over the thread. Run the thread through the machine's tension guide and thread normally. I hope you will be as pleased with the results as I was.
Thanks I needed this hint! Yesterday I had trouble with metallic thread twisting and making a knot so I tried it today and it really does work. Thanks again *4U
well it's something I will try ifv this happens to me, thanks!
Great idea - I'll try this - especially for metallic threads
Thanks for sharing, I'm on my way to do a project so will give it a try. *4U
Never heard of it either, thanks very much for the tip, will try this
Wow! this is a really good idea...I see it also works with metallic thread great will give this a try...Sally
This looks like a super idea but am I being really stupid????? How do you connect the styrofoam to the machine?
You don't. You thread your yarn through it with an ordinary sewing needle and the styro foam stays in place, pulled to the first obstruction it meets.
Excellent i am waiting to get a piece of that styrofoam Thanks for the reminder!!Carolyn
Great tip, but I have another question. How do you keep threads in a box from tangling up? The spool don't have tiny slits in them any more where you can put the thread when not in use. I really don't want to put slits in the spools because of tangling. Any suggestions.

I use Hugos amazing tape on spools that don't have the snap bottom. Great stuff!!
another solution is a pack of pencil top erasers from the dollar store (40 for a $1) They fit perfectly into the top of my small spools. I lay the thread across the top and push the eraser in to hold the thread. Or tiny hair bands from the dollar store wrap around your spools for any size spool.
I buy a pack of ponytail hair elastics . A 100 or more tiny to large little and round for about $2. put this around the spool and it keeps thread from unraveling. they are also great to use on bobbins./Lillian
I got a bag of 100 tiny pony tail elastics for $1 at the dollar store. Great for keeping threads from unraveling on bobbins and spools.
if they are metro threads pull down on the plastic bottom. That is where the thread holder is,then pop back up.
Good to share, I use styrofoam when I am using metallic thread, it helps it stay straight.

Thanks for sharing your tip with us. Will have to give this a try.
Nice to see that tip come up again. jrob mentioned 'packing peanuts' a long time ago, but with so many newcomers it's worth repeating!
Do you know, I could not remember who planted the styrofoam seed, thank you for reminding me, it was Jillian. I am never without my styrofoam, and uses it for lots of problems. Always works like a bom. Lol
May I ask, what brand is your machine???? I've never seen one, like yours. Grannieannie
'n Boer maak 'n plan. Slim meisie die Marietta. Good idea I will remember it. I had the same problem for more than two years. I could not use a certain thread... it breaks every few seconds. Then I start using Anton Robison's threads .. not breaks at all. But the i decided, there must be a something wrong some where.. I did a google search and found that if I use the Klasse needles with that thread, I won't have a problem and whallo.. no breaks any more..
Hello daar, where do you live. Must be somewhere in S.A. the Afrikaans is too good for somewhere else. Thanks for other information too.
Marietta nee ek is nie in RSA nie. Ek is al 16 jaar weg daar en in Australia nou. xxx
It looks like you found yourself a great solution - this looks like a lovely project, too.
I always carry a piece of styrofoam Shirlene, it works wonders. Was very pleased with the table net I was making.
Hummmm I might give it a try...What were you making in the picture?
