I have injured my back again. (1st time was rear ended in a car). My 10 mo old grandson was crawling toward our sunken livingroom and I jumped up to catch him before he fell and put my foot on his satin lined blanket which caused me to fall HARD. I have dr appt tomorrow, but have been through the back stuff before and all they will want to do in operate and I'm not doing that unless I can't take a step. I have only slept about 3 hrs in 2 days. Using tens unit, muscle relaxer, heat, naproxin, and prilosec as the NSAID messes up my stomach.

I appreciate all the petitions more than you will know.

Hello Jerrilyn, I am so sorry to hear about your back. Take things steady for the time being. For that stomach, eat loads of Yoghurt and when you drink pills, crush it first and never drink on an empty stomach. I have Fibromialgia and medicine affect my stomach very easy and that is what I do if my tummy is affected. Another thing you can try for the back is to alternate between heat and cold. Put ice in a plastic bag and cover it with a towel before applying it to the back. I think of you and pray that you will be back to normal soon. Love and Hugs, Annatjie

I know very well where you are coming from about the surgery. Also about the pain. Being cripple from the arthritis and having a hard time walking most of the time, I am always afraid of taking a tumble. Back pain is something that no one that has a good back has no idea how painful it is to get around. I have 3 disc at the end of my spine that the arthritis has deterioated. Everytime I have a flair-up all the drs. start with the surgery thing. As long as I can function without surgery, I refuse to have it!!! I am so sorry that your are having problems. It is horrible company and a pain that does not go away gracefully. It lingers on and on until you think you are going to give up on it going away and then one morning it just might feel some better. I know you understand what I am talking about! I have been fighting surgery on my back for more than 18 yrs. At one time I was taking Soma, muscle relaxers for spasms in my back and had a back-up pain med of Percocet(sp). Last Dec I went off of all my meds. I could no longer afford them and was sick and tired of the effects of the meds. I get very depressed now alot more easily since I am off of the meds but My son is usually the reason for the depression. That is another story for another time or just best left unsaid.
Someone in the neighborhood is having a fire. I need to go. I have never heard so many sirens. May God bless you and keep you in his loving hands!

Jerrilyn some how i think i spoke to you somewhere else
I have many disks out in my spine and it is a doubble s bend and they protude every witch way. so moviing and leaning never eases any pain and siatic pain is some thing i have lived with for many years as i am highly alergic to all medications as well as rubber and plastics and no doctor will touch me now as i a risk to them. So i had to find my own ways of dealing with it all I did have an opp to remove the disk that was troubling the siatic nerve and i was crippled for 12 months but i wont give up. i walk now and am not sorry for having the opp as i could not do anything at all till then. because of pain. I use heat rub or rapid gel wich is what they use on horses here is australia and i rub it on my spine then i use fridge magnets the ones that have the adds on them or i go to the printer and he sells me pieces of magnet and you can get it in craft stores and you place it on where you have gently rubbed the rub or gel and leave it there all day it moulds into the shape of your body and for me within 15minuites i am totally free of siatic pain and i do the same for cold feet and rub the feet and put a magnet in the sole of the shoe and warm feet all day or under sox for night. i wish you well ..

Just found this out, I rarely read the personals as so much else is just posted on the public one. I truly hope something can be done to help with the pain and get you healing. Back problems are the worst because they affect everything you do with any other part of the body. Get well soon.

You have my prayers. I injured my back years ago and nothing seemed to help. I started yoga and later pilates. Both stretch muscles and work on the core which helps your back. I haven't had any back pain in forever. Well the normal stuff but nothing close to what it was. Something to think about once your back is better.

I was doing Yoga 3x a week when this happened, or I'm sure it would have been much worse. I'll be back in class as soon as the Dr. says I can. LOVE Yoga!!!

I too have back problems - from a fall. I fell down the stairs (took the last 3 steps as one long one), had a very bad break near the top on my left arm and instead of just dilocating it I had it do a 180 degree turn. Later when I was going to go back to work, my back wouldn't let me as I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes or walk very far . The Dr. says there's nothing wrong with my back - so why does it pain like this ?
Hopefully you have a Dr. that will check you thoroughly and hopefully no surgery or prescriptions.
I like what someone else mentioned about the yoga and pilates. I start yoga tomorrow. Someone mentioned it to me and I figured why not - can't hurt, especially as the Dr says there's nothing wrong with my back!
So try different things and hopefully you'll find what works for you.

Oh my dear Jerrilyn, you don't even have to ask 'cause you are on my daily list. This is terrible & you are right about the Drs. I'm hoping they will be able to help you with therapy. Every time I've listen to the Dr. about surgery I just said "let's try therapy first" I 'll go to PT & he gets me back on my feet again. Hope this will not keep you down long./ Much love Lillian

Thank you Shirlene. The doctor said that I had blunt trauma(duh) which caused a bleed in my right hip and it is pooled around my sciatic nerve. That nerve had a very LOUD voice and screams quite frequently. I just want to heal, not deal. But I know that somehow God will prevail, just like he always does.

shirlener88 by shirlener88 02 Oct 2010

Oh my goodness - I hop you heal quickly dear. what will they do about the bleed?

jrob by jrob 04 Oct 2010

Just waiting to see if my body re-absorbs the blood right now. And hopefully it will clot and stop on it's own.

Jerrilyn,
I will keep you in my prayers and pray that you have a doctor that is into "healing" not just dispensing!
Maybe try a couple of sleeping tablets just to get a decent rest as your body recouperates better then!
If nothing else you get a couple of hours pain-free!
LOL

My hubbys back was hurt bad by a rear end accident too several years ago.He did not want an operation because it could make you worse no guarentees. He was in terrible pain all the time no matter what. He had so many shots in his back for the pain it was crazy. He finally saw a pain specialist and they did a radiofrequency neurotomy on him. Its a fast prosedure. They put you to sleep and basically fry the nerve going to that the painful spot. It was like a miracal. No more pain. It lasted 7 years and they just did it again because the nerves regenerate themselves. It has been a godsend. Maybe you should inquire it may help. Suzanne

Jerilyn I'm so sorry to hear this. I too, have back problems, but mine is RhA. I also said I wouldn't have back surgery til I was crawling...(now that I have two new knees, I can't do that it will mess them up.) hehehehe. I will keep you in prayer. Hopefully you will get relief soon. The tens unit only helps some. I always said it takes away the pain only because it was giving me shocks elsewhere. hehehe. But it does help some. Keep us abreast of what is happening. Hugs, Terre
