I've always use 2 layers of WSS. the same thread in top and bobbin (regardless of the thread used). I've also used fine quilting thread (as an experiment) and that too worked well. The key is to 'test' what you are going to do first before you do the actual pieces.........I too suggest that if the design is falling apart after you rinse it out, then there is something wrong with the way it was digitized...maybe not enough 'base' to hold it up.

If they are the bells I am thinking of I had the same sort of problems with the stitch-out and I gave up on them.

Before I washed out the WSS I stitched all around the area that didn't catch, using a stitch on my machine the I thought would blend in. I did this while the design was still hooped.
Hope this helps. Hugs n roses, Meganne

I wouldn't want to use another stitch over this cause it would show. I just used 4 layers of fiber wss and got 2 good ones, hoping this 3rd that I am ready to rinse out is good too. I had done a couple before in plain white using white bobbin thread too and they looked good but I wanted to use our son's wedding color on these, orange (fall colors).

I think it was here, a freebie of course and it is really pretty. The reason I don't think it is the digitizing of the design is because each bell was coming apart at a different place.

Yes, if you can see the other side, as in ornaments of any kind, use the same thread top and bottom, whatever that thread might be. You'll see how much classier they look and they feel better, too.
Good luck with the wedding bells.

Did a few with same thread top and bottom but they are not stitching out well, falling apart. Now trying 4 layers of fiber wss pulled tight, tension is good. Wish me luck on this one or I quit and nobody at the wedding gets a bell ornament at the wedding!

Debra, I see you have your answer - I always use the same thread in the top and bobbin - it makes for a more uniform look on both sides of the ornament, that can bee seen on both sides. Good luck with the wedding dear.

I use a special cotton thread for FSL on top and in bobbin. No matter which thread u're using, always use the same thread in both ends.
Happy sewing with a rose,
Starlet

Thanks, I will stick with embroidery thread but since I need to use it on the bottom also I have a stack of ornaments for myself, lol. Now I will do them in the wedding color since I need to use the same color.

Use the same embroidery thread you use on the top.

Thanks, good thing I bought some more bobbins, guess I'll be winding them with the wedding theme color instead of white!
