My sewing group put their "scraps" together and we created this hexagon quilt. It is a quilt-as-you-go. We just used the same background fabric for uniformity and I put it together. Scraps of lace, embroidery samples etc were used. Also a great way to try out some of our machines' decorative stitches. Everyone who worked on the quilt had their name put into a hat, a name was drawn at random and one lady went home with the quilt. A great time was had by all!

What a great way to use up all your scraps. I love scrap quilts and the idea of quilt as you go is wonderful. When you want to stop your done. **4U and everyone

It is lovely - I can imagine how excited you all were to do one together like this - then have a drawing for it, in the end.

What a great story. My mother used to make quilts with hexagons sewn by hand. In going through her linen chest my brother & I found one and it brought back so many memories from the fabric used. I am not sure why but I said my brother could have the quilt. I must need my marbles seeing too...

Love you quilt. Where can I find the pattern? I am getting ready to do a quilt with scraps and this looks great. Mildred

Mildred, here is the link. There is no "pattern" as such. The hexagons are cut from batting and the scraps are sewn onto that. The hexagon shapes are made from perspex. The inner shape is for the batting, the outer shape is the backing that folds over.

Thank you. The best thing is that it is a quilt-as-you-go and there is no binding to add at the end.

Thanks Carolyn. It is a great way of using even the smallest of scraps, as well as ribbon, lace and thread.

Very nice job. How did you put the hexagons together?

Thank you. I joined them by laying them side by side and used irregular zigzag (we call it a grass stitch).

Thank you. The quilt comes together easily as long as the hexagons are accurately cut.

Thank you. I do not have a close up of the finished quilt, but I will post a picture of one or two hexagons in the making.
