I have a Diamond. I do like it and it does a lot of things. But the biggest thing you need to check on is the support you have with your dealer. The machines are being made in Taiwan (spelling?) not mainland China yet. I was led to believe the Diamond was made in Sweden, but I don't think they are now. Also the warrenty with Viking has changed a little so read it carefully. I have had Viking machines for years..BUT I have noticed their service issues aren't taken care of as good as they used to. But then, I hear the same thing from everyone! It all goes back to the dealer & what they will do for you. I love the larger hoops, especially the 120x120 and the largest before the HUGE hoop you pay extra for. I haven't used the huge hoop except in class! But do use all the others. The 120x120 gives you that little bit extra when a design will not quite fit a 4x4. There are Diamond groups on Yahoo that can probably answer lots of questions for you.
Thank you, the dealer here in Iceland is very, very good, then I don´t have to worry a about anything with the Dimond or Ruby. Yes i´m thinking about the 360x360 hoop, will I use that hoop in the future so much, I don´t think so or maybe?????
I just had a demo on the Ruby. It is very much like the Designer SE,which I love, but with some improvements such as the longer arm and larger hoop that will stitch out with out having to use the 3 positions of the mega hoop. It also has more built in stitches. I belive the viewing screen is smaller on the Ruby than the SE which is a disappointment. They are giving a good trade in value for the SE but I'm not sure it is worth the extra money I would have to spend. At one of the stores here they are including an extention table with it for sewing but only 2 hoops.
Thank you, we no longer have the SE here in Iceland so it´s either Dimond, Ruby og Topaz (Pfaff) Have to take a look at them again on Monday before I diced which one is the best.
Ihave been trying to thing about whether to get the Diamond. But, then I went to a Babylock show, and I really do think that I will most likely go with the Ellisimo. I have (2) Designer SE, and I really do love them. However, there are some designs that I can not do. I have nearly every hoop that can be purchased for the Viking, and usually only use one of two sizes - the 240x150, or the l80x130. I backed off getting a machine for a while, and may rethink what I really want to do. I have heard good and bad on the Diamond - I think that is why I am holding off for a while.
Thank you, yes have to think very very hard which one is better "Ruby" or "Dimond" I mostly use the hoop 240x150 - 180x130 and 170x100 - maby I will use 360x360 1x in a year or 2x - maby whoes knows, that´s the question hehehehehe
I have the Designer 1 and when I upgraded to the Designer SE I kept my D1 because the trade in value they gave me wasn't worth losing it. I have not upgraded to the Diamond because frankly, I think the D1 is a better machine than the SE...and I am afraid I would be even more unhappy with the Diamond. Pfaff has a machine with larger hoops now but Viking owns them too. I think if I ever go to another machine for a larger hoop I will buy a Babylock. Vikings are made in China now, no longer Sweden.
Thank you, I think we don´t have the Babylock here in Iceland. I´m thinking to lett my daugther in low have the Designer1 if - yes if I buy me another.
translation: I've the Diamond for a year. It is marvellous. Here, in France, my dealer offered me the big hoop. If you can afford to buy it, do not hesitate. Brodeuse77
According to my dealer the 'ruby' is just like the diamond but doesn't have that super mega hoop. so if you don't need that giant hoop you can save $4000.00
Yes, I have seen the "Ruby" and it cost $4.150 dollar here in Iceland, $2000 dollar cheaper than the "Dimond". The biggest hoop which come with the "Ruby" is 360x200, that will be very nice, because I use the Mega Hoop 360x150 a lot, but have to splitt the designs and move to positio 1 and 2 and 3 In hoop 360x200 in "Ruby" will the machine sew the desing in one position, that´s great. I will go again and have a look at the "Ruby" before I dicide what to do.
Have you purchased any of the larger hoops for your Designer 1? The Diamond is a lovely machine - it's largest hoop is very big and you can really stitch out some lovely designs on it - you do have to decide - if the price is worth the upgrade? You will be getting something back on your machine, I hope, might not be much - but they should give you something.
I have the biggest hoop for Designer 1 "Mega hoop" I don´t know how much it cost in USA but here in Iceland is the price 760 thousand which is in dollar to day $6.800 it is alot of money in Icelandic crown, yes I hope to have some money for the old one.
