My son is in a hospital in Oregon and he isnt telling me any more. He says it isnt cancer. But you all know kids, they dont want to worry you. I would appreciate any ones knowledge of this. He says legs very painful, and one swole up twice the size of the other. He is in a wheelchair for now. Thanks hope you can help. Iva

I had an infection in my leg after a car accident and broken bones--I had whirlpool treatments and wore an IV pump for 6 weeks and had my blood drawn every week to make sure any infection in the bone was taken care of. I am sure your son is being given the best of care.

Sure it is possible to have an infection of the bone, usually it occurs from an injury that starts as an open wound. But it can happen from an infection that starts else where and settles there. Less frequent this way, but possible. He is most likely in a wheelchair to keep the leg elevated, which is what should be done currently. This should be very painful, the swelling is normal for this type of problem. Have been a nurse since 1988. Will answer questions honestly for you.

Iva, I'm not sure I should do this but I know you are worried. Maybe this link will help answer some of your questions. I will remember your son in my prayers. Reva
