I've had lots of problems with breaking threads and today I stitched out a complete design without a single break! It occured to me that the thread could run more evenly from a horizontal spool at right angles to the machine. I explained what I wanted to my husband and he made me a stand which does exactly that. It has to be rather wide to give it stability so I have threaded a second spool onto the dowel so that the one in use doesn't move too much. It isn't a work of art, but it certainly works!

Hi Sue, If I have difficult thread I put my ordinary sewing machine behind my embroidery machine and use the upright spool on that. It seems that the further the thread is away the less likely it kinks and breaks. Thanks for showing us your spool holder. Sarah.

You should market these, have hubby make several and offer it to embroiderers..

Wonderful!!! My DH made me 2 thread holders a long time ago. I have 3 machines that need them. Mine are a little different but accomplish the same end result. I don't think I can sew without them Hahaha1 I am so happy for your hubbys work for you. Hugs, Judy

That is a neat idea for a spool holder. I might have to make something like that for myself.
Good job!

This is a great idea ! Lucky you, to have a DIY husband who makes what you need at the demand !

I think I recognize those little cabinet in the background, I've got them in pink in my work shop.

He usually comes up with the goods - but he isn't always as quick as with this one!

That certainly is THE way to prevent kinks in your thread. And it looks nice too!

Here is the picture. BTW it works best with the thread coming from the bottom of the spool as shown.

Pity about the gaffer tape holding t he table together! It was two knitting machine tables)

danababes by danababes 21 Oct 2010

Ahhhh... you should have kept quiet lol coz I thought that was tape holding down a power cord so it wouldnt move. And yeah, your room is so tidy! Love the idea for the thread stand :) xXx
