These are beautiful! I have crocheted for years and i love it. I have been working on a blanket for a few years now and plan to give it to my daughter when she marries. It's made out of the fine crochet cotton. I'll try to put a picture on soon. My favorite design is the pineapple.
hugs Lee
You are certainly better than I. I started a spread for my antique poster bed, and got maybe 3" done, and decided to quit. I could not get the hang of it done at all, and it would have taken me years to make.
Yep that takes me down memory lane. I also learned in school. I once made a whole table cloth for my round dining room table in the pineapple pattern.
Beautiful work. Isn't nice when you find things like this from years ago. Arlene
Beautiful! Like a walk down memory lane-my mother used to do doilies-crochet and tatted when we were growing up-always had doilies on end tables, center of kitchen table, arm chair covers, etc. It's a dieing art I guess-I learned on worsted weight yarn so dropping down to crochet cotton was awkward for me. My 21 yr old daughter however, has made me some beautiful doilies
Its great to see that items made years ago are still hangig around! I wonder what will happen to all the projects we are sharing here! Well Done
What lovely pieces. The only crocheting I have done is with yarn (in afghans) I never could handle the crochet thread. Thanks for sharing and the trip down memory lane. *4U and everyone
Lovely memorabilia! I've never seen butterflies before, but the method looks much the same as the pineapple, which I have crocheted. I love tatting. It's nice we can do something similar on a machine but it can't beat the real thing.
I think that I ran across the pattern not too long ago. If you are interested let me know, and I will dig through my mess. I never did learn to tat, but my younger daughter started when she had a neighbor teach her some. I doubt she could do it now.
Thanks so much for sharing. They still look lovely. Oh yes , it is so much quicker on the machine. But I still like to do hand crocheting, can carry it with me. Hugs Yvonne
I have crochet the butterfly many times in years long past!!Thanks for the memory lane trip &the pineapple was/is the one i do most Carolyn
Oh these are very lovely pieces and I can see why you would still have them - after all these years - such lovely work of art - I never could get my hands to work with crocheting either - so I am thrilled these days to make pretty pieces similar to these. Thanks for sharing a little bit of the past with us.
Wow in the country in grade 4 we learned to crochet & grade 7 it was knitting !!Carolyn
Hmmm, we didn't learn in school - but that would have been fun - my Grandmother tried a few times - but I am a lefty and just never could manage to get it right.
My friend is left handed & she finds it hard so she knitts mitts by the hundreds i would go mad doing it again & again .Thats why i love embroidery new designs every day LOL carolyn
we learned in school too-Jr.High-but we actually learned with rug yarn-made stuffed animals with them. Then our home ec. teacher taught some of us how to do the granny squares-which were the big thing at the time and later how to do basic knitting and macrame
Now we do them by machine much quicker...I still do a little crocheting by hand but not the tatting...these items still look good after all these years. congratulations lovely items to treasure.
Oh yes it is and how wonderful for it. Fantastic crocheted items to treasure. I've always wanted to make a doily by hand, but just haven't made the time. These are great! Thanks for sharing
