inside of my SIL's fleece jacket. I undid the ribbing at the back - enough so I could get inside to attach pockets. When I went to sew the ribbing back between the fleece and lining(the lining had batting attached), the machine would bunch up the thread. The machine would stop - telling me to rethread the machine, that the thread broke. I finally had to leave it messy as he was headed out the nex morn for hunting and I would fix it when he got back.

I tried changing needles and then thread.
Any other suggestions?

try using a small piece of wss to stitch over, then touch with a little water and it's gone and you should be ok.

Thanks - he's back from hunting for a couple weeks and then going again so I will try some of the suggestions (and hopefully one of them works) and then he'll be all set. Thanks.

If you lessen the pressure of the foot?? Maybe the batting is puffy and the heavy pressure of the foot is bunching.(also lengthen the stitch)
Good Luck

I tried these and that didn't help. But you never know maybe try them together and it will - I tried them separately.
Thanks.

Sometimes you have to do the old fashioned way and hand stitch/baste in place then machine stitch. If it still bunches up sometimes I use tissue paper on both sides before sewing.

Thanks - I'll have to try that.
