I have been here-in NC, it's not far from my sister's house-and gotten lots of lovely Large cones of thread. I now see that they carry a great number of colored bobbins.
You have your answer so have fun embroidering. I use almost exclusively prewound BTW. I change bobbins a lot less.
I really like the pre-wound - so much more thread than if I wind myself - and no time wasted on winding bobbins. I do my own for FSL or ITH where I need the back to match the front. I use plastic sided pre-wounds (not the cardboard) and I have had no troubles with them at all.
I asked my dealer about this earlier today..
he says that you cannot put a price on your valuable time..
we worked on a rough guide of price between the
pre-wound versus own wound.
we based it on a 5000 cone of bobbin thread v 130 pre wound.
if I can pay less then 15 pence (UK money) per bobbin its cheaper to use the pre wound.. which also lasts longer the own wound..

I did this comparsion once but I don't remember where I got the info. Winding your own is cheaper but prewound hold so much more thread that to me the time (and frustration) that I save while sewing and rewinding is worth the small difference in price. I bought a box of prewounds for embroidery and I am hooked.I still wind my own for regular sewing.
My Ellageo winds a good bobbin, but I LOVE prewound ones. There is just so much more thread on a bobbin, so less time changing it.
Long Creek Mills will send you a sample for not much. Cigar City arts might be the chart that you were seeking.

Don't know of any chart since all machines wind bobbins with different amounts on them. I have been told that pre-wound are cheaper but I have been winding my own. Thinking about picking up a small pack at JoAnn's just to try them out.
I have found that when using prewound bobbins for embroidery that the prewound is easier, faster, cheaper and stitches out great. You also get a lot more thread on a prewound that you are capable of winding on your own. something about the big machines they use to wind them on. Anyway a lot of times it's just preference. I've never seen or used prewound for regular thread.
I believe that depends on the actual wt. of the bobbin thread. I use a 120 wt bobbin thread that costs about $7 for a 5000 yd spool so I get a lot more bobbin thread onto a bobbin vs. bobbin filled with 70 wt.
I know for me here in the USA it costs less for me to wind my own, I hope someone can help you in London.
I can see the ease of pre wound
i wanted to see if I could aprox work out the price difference lol..
