Congratulations! I hope all turns out well. My son was jaundice at birth but a little time in the sun every day turned it around quickly. They have lamps that you can use too. Would love to see pictures.

Maria, I bet you have a new babydoll in the family. You need to take some pictures of her and share with us. Jaundice is not anything serious in this day and time. I do hope that she is very healthly otherwise. Time will take care of the other with a little help from the Dr's. I hope your niece continues to improve. It might be a bit slower than the baby's progress. If I remember correctly, you had said before that she was having a hard time. I will keep them in my prayers and you can do the hands on thing with Mama and baby. It is so great that you are so close to you neice! Give her a big hug from all of us!

As you have been told Jaundice is very very common in newborns, lots of light will help this quite a bit. I hope everyone will do well. I was a 4lb baby and look at me now. heheheh....

I was a preemie, 4lb-2oz baby way back in Dec of 46. I have made a great come-back..Too Great! Was not sickly and had more energy than 4 other babies/children put together but not hyper. I was not a sleeper and even at almost 64, am not a sleeper now. I thrive off of less than 4 hrs sleep a night unless I am sick. All I want to do with a fever is sleep. Thank goodness that does not happen often! With my arthritis and bad back, I am slow and it takes me extra time to get things done. NO! I am not having surgery again until it is a life/death situation. I have been there and done that and the Dr's nearly killed me and robbed me of almost a year of my life. The Dr's are all in agreement that my life style is what has caused the arthritis and the 3 disc that need to be replaced. I was BIG into all sports, took all kinds of dancing and acrobats for many years and was a gymnast all of my pre-teen and teen yrs. I grew up with a bowling ball in my hands at least 5 night a week(parents both in leagues), even threw 8 strikes and a spare when I was filling in on a team of adults at 10 yrs old. My dad was a semi-pro baseball player and I was an only child. He made a tom-boy out of me! I was the 1st woman in Emanuel County that actually coached a boys baseball team and I lasted the whole season. That is why my body is so worn out, not because I was a premmie and had Jaundice. Boy! Do I miss the times when it did not hurt to walk across a room! I can also tell the difference in my body now if I gain 5 lbs! I hold fluids so it happens very often although I do not keep the weight very long at the time. I could stand to lose 50+ lbs and I know there would be less pain but I can not exercise any longer and the weight just stays on.

wow, sorry you had to go thru so much pain. The baby's older brother had jaundice when he was born too, but some people said that that is more comun in very white babies, like him, blond and blue eyes, the new baby took after daddy, so she looks lots darker, and has lots of hair, she is only 6.6 lbs.

Congrats to you all. Lbrow is right. Jaundice is common and easily treated. Your niece will be better quicker than you sister's recovery. But prayers are being said. Now go and have a wonderful visit with them both.

Maria I hope your neice is still improving. It is not unusual for newborns to have some jaundice. That is usually taken care of with special lamps. Will keep praying.
