I use the mylar from Michaels and I have washed and dryed it the washer and dryer. I would Through the dollar store mylar in with a few old towels and see how it holds up.
Emb Library designs are usually very dense, almost "bullet proof" so a mylar design would be alot lighter and less stich intensive. I have purchase the gift wrap at dollar store, and it works fine. Some of the packs say "washable" and I would trust that, others I would wet my fingers and rub, because if it comes off and look clear, it won't survive washing, but would work for craft items (xmas decor, etc). I have had good luck putting it behind a rainbow for little dgd's and they loved the shimmer.

So far I have used it only in Ornaments or window displays no need for washing. I bought it at the dollar store in all kinds of colors which I will not hesitate to embroider on non washable items. From what I have read so far the one that does not bleed is the pearlized one.
I have a few designs. The hard part is finding the mylar. Party City has it in the gift wrap department. Also found some at a Dollar Tree store. it tears away very easily and really leaves a wow effect to a design. Kay
I have seen alot of designs using the mylar and foils from the dollar stores-just curious-how does it hold up. I have never tried it, but would like to give it a try- but I really don't want to spend alot just to try it and maybe not like it. Does it hold up to washer and dryer or are there special washing instructions involved in this kind of embroidery. Thanks Kay ~smiles~ linda
Someone posted earlier a photo of a bad experience. I suspect she probably got a hold an impostor Mylar. I can't give any long term report on washings.
I haven't tried it, would like to know also, what others think. love JoAnn
