Thanks for your partcipation and I hope you all are enjoying all the pretty candles that are being made and most of them are using the CUTE designs here - I hope those that have not - will try another with the CUTE designs, too. Thanks!
IT COULD BE FUN... IT WAS LAST YEAR WHEN WE DID IT FOR THE FIRST TIME, IT COULD BE MORE FUN THE SECOND TIME AROUND!!!!!
Well Girlfriend, you really got me started on something with this!!! I even stitched out another design before I left home this week and I went hunting for all my unused candles, I found another 5 I can do. WOOHOO!!!
I gave my Noel text design to Miss V so she could share it with Cuties, if she chose too.
And I sent my tip for using scented candles to Emblibrary, you may like to keep an eye out for it.
OK, back to the house cleaning and unpacking.
hugs n love, me
I am sorry - if this is getting in the way of you doing other things - Hehehe! It was really Emblibrary that started it - I just put a challenge out to use the CUTE designs for us - but I love all the lovely candles that have been shared by all of you. I will look for the TIP, too. *4U
Apparently scented candles are harder to work with as they have a film over the outside so glue does not always stick the design to the candle. I have decided to ribbon mine as then the design can be removed and used as a cristmas decoration, rather that it getting burnt. Helen
Hellen, that is a great way to do it - the candle can be used all year and the ornament can be used for the tree or on the candle again, the following year. *4U
OH! Shirlene! How I did not see this postage... It is a fantastic idea!
Can it be any kind of candle???
Oh yes, any kind of candle - but use one of the CUTE designs - I noticed that you had a lovely one in the PROJECT the other day - so I hope you might do another soon, too. *4U
Gee Thanks Shirlene, just downloaded the tute now will see about getting to the embroidery designs..have been doing angels for Country Needle Tree, got those off today so hopefully can get on with some gifts now...x0x0x0x
Glenda, I hope you enjoy this challenge - it is wonderful that you partciplated in the Country Needle Tree - I thought that was closed last week - it is wonderful what her yahoo group do each year, too. *4U
ttt - for other's to view and participate in - if they wish - we have until December 12th and you can also decorate soap or a candle with any of the designs from the CUTE Embroidery website. Have fun and happy stitching.
I have seen alot of pretty candles in projects - thanks for partcipating in the challenge - you still have through December 12th. If you don't like candles - do a bar of soap.
Shirlene, I Love this idea,do the designs have to come from Emblibrary?
Helen
Helen, the idea is to have them come from the CUTE Embroidery site - to showcase the designs from here. OK?
Hey girlfriend, what a great idea.
Pauline told me of this challenge today and we went shopping for candles straight away, so I guess I will be sewing amongst the packing boxes. LOL!!!!!
Now..... to find just the right design here at Cute.... :-)
hugs n roses, Meganne
Do you know where you can get candles that are scented. I tied a few places today but didn't see any. Joyce
My goodness - I have never had trouble finding scented candles - especially this time of years.
So you are saying that you want us/me to watch this video, then take one of the great designs from this site and create a pretty candle for a gift and share it in projects?
Yes, exactly - that way we get to see some of the designs from this site - have a gift for another and also be inspired by others creativity. Hope you partcipate.
I saw those candles! Fantastic! I was so impressed! If my machine gets back from the shop in time, I'll join the challenge. They'd make awesome presents!
Meri
Meri, the deadline is December 12th - I do hope they would have your machine done by then - hope you get to partcipate - *4U
Thank you all for responding - I do hope you each enjoy this challenge - the deadline will be December 12th and those that don't want to use a candle can use soap if you prefer. Happy stitching! *4U all.
Shirlene, what a wonderful idea! I will do my best. It will be fun for all of us to make pretty candles. Sue *4 All
Hi Shirlene. I just got a bunch of their designs this evening. Probably will not get to make one till after Saturday. I am helping my Daughter in law with a baby shower at my home. I have been wanting to make a candle like this. Even bought a couple of candles a few months ago. will post when I get them finished.
OK Mildred, make sure you use a CUTE embroidery design for this challenge - OK? Have fun stitching. *4U
Great idea shirlene. I don't know if i'll be able to join in this time, but I love to observe what great talents our cuties have. Sukiray
Sukiray, if you change your mind - we have over a month - to make them. Keep on stitching. *4U
Sounds fun! If I can come up with some free time, I'll try one.
shuede, I understand about the time - that is why I suggested you use this challenge as one of your gifts - keep on stithcing - *4u
Ok i'm in , have just chosen my design from cute. This is going to be fun, have never done this before. ")
Pauline, I know what you mean - I haven't either - I will have to select a design and get on made - before all the fun ones are taken - Hehehe! Keep on stitching *4U2
Would love to join the challenge but just overing shoulder surgery. I will love to see what others do though.
Ramona, you can be excused for this challege dear - hope you support the rest of us - in this endeavor - Hehehe! *4U
Shirlene, Those candles are beautiful!!! Thanx for the info, Hugs, Judy
Shirlene, I am always up for a challenge will have a go later! Sally
Thanks Shirlene. I am sure we would be able to use FSL on this one. I did'nt realise I had so few Christmas designs from Cute, I have a subscription so I had better get downloading. love Marg
Marg, you don't only have to use FSL - you can use any design and it doesn't have to be Christmas - only if you want it to be. Hehehe! Keep on stitching *4U
This is a very lovely idea! Thank you Shirlene for posting this.
Great Idea - and I know that I probably have a drawer full of the pillars - I know what I may be giving for Christmas. LOL
Beth, that is great - isn't it - that from one little idea - our Christmas gifts can be created in a short while - Hehehe! *4U
Dear Shirlene, it is a great idea, I will try to do such a candle. Does any design agree or is it only FSL to succeed to do on the candle?
Claude, I am glad you like it - any of the designs on CUTE will work - you stitch it on tulle or organza and stabilizer. Have fun stitching. *4U
I also have problem with open flame where I give gifts so I take large candle and burn down 1/3 way pouring out the wax then cut the wick so it can't be uses and place a battery candle tea lite in it it gives the glow and the fire dept is happy I sometime add a little sent oil on my fabric before I glue it on in a place it not going to be visiable to add a litte holiday spirit
ksieminskie, what a great idea - I love it - hope you share one of these in the projects with a CUTE design on it soon. *4U
I have been trying to think of a project for Christmas. This might be just the thing. I am going to try it. I have not used the tulle or organza but have been wanting to. This will be perfect to try it. Joyce
Joyce, I am glad to hear that you will try it - that is the the reason behind a challege - to get others to join in - as a group and try it out - *4U
sounds like a lovely idea. hope I can participate. but * for the suggestion already!
Good idea and hope all can do it. Would love to see them.
Sounds like a great idea. I will have to give this 1 a miss but I look forward to see what everyone comes up with.
there is one that will look pretty on a candle...so maybe....
Maria, if there is only one - you better get it done - before the rest of us find it - or maybe.....
I think it is a great idea to do that because we have here a lot of great designs like the christmasbears but also a great alphaletter on it . Yvonne
Yes Yvonne there are many designs that will work - you don't have to limit to Christmas, either. *4U
Just a stupid question: What happened when the flame reached the embroidery?
I think it will burn (even with that adhessive under it! Did Kenny from EL own a firm for that? It is in every project ;o). I have candles here but also two active kids and so I'm very careful with open flames :o)
Greetings, Bettina
Like the most candles wil not burn the outsite and candles and children are difficult but you can place them on the dinner table or so. I always mannaged it, Yvonne
You don't have to actually burn the candle - but Kenny did address this - so read what he said about it - another of the CUTE family members suggested burning the candle down and then pouring the wax out - making it so that it will not burn again and inserting a votive candle in the top - it becomes less of a problem - if you don't want to try this with a candle - maybe you can do a bar of soap???? *4U
Hi Shirlene, you had a great idea and I´m shure we will se a lot of pretty candles. I´ve just done this some weeks ago but I used FSL because I did not know this great instructions from Emblibrary but it looks great!
Thank you for posting this!
What a lovely candle - is this a CUTE design - if not how about trying one of the CUTE designs on a candle and join the challenge. *4U
Nice idea. I loved the June hallenge last year, about time we had a whole lot of Cute designs in Projects just to show how much we love these designs!
Martine, yes isn't it great to showcase the work of this site? I love it - hope you create something lovely and have fun doing so. *4U
Could it be either soap or a candle?
Yes, Bev we can do either soap or a candle - OK - just make sure you use a CUTE design? Keep on stitching *4U
Count me in. I'll have to find a candle that is large enough. :) is there a deadline date? It will be interesting to see what everyone comes up with. Thanks for the challenge Shirlene.
I love the challenge. I have made candles and soaps that look like this before, and put them in a gift basket along with embroidered towels, and embroidered toilet paper.
They are fun to make. I don't know if I will be able to find the time to make one, but if I can, I will. Thanks for sharing
Oh my stitchship - then you would be a whizz at creating just one - hope you take the challenge and join in on the fun. If not - hope you join in the fun and support those that do - keep on stitching - *4U
Well, I don't have any candles, we don't burn candles and I don't have anyone on my gift list who does so I won't be joining the challenge but in case I ever do decide to do one I have one question:
On the instructions it says you need cut away stabilizer but no where in the directions could I find where you use it. Anybody know?
One of the 1st steps:
Cut a piece of fabric and heavyweight
water-soluble stabilizer
(WSS) a bit larger than your
hoop. Be sure to choose fabric
that closely matches the color
of the candle. This will help the
edges of the fabric blend in well
when it is glued onto the
candle. Spray the WSS with a
quick shot of temporary
adhesive and smooth the fabric
on top
Then the next step:
Flip the fabric and stabilizer
over so that the stabilizer is
right side up. Placing the
stabilizer on top helps keep the
edges of the stitching
clean. Hoop the stabilizer and
fabric together.
The after two more steps:
When the design has finished,
trim away the excess stabilizer,
but be very careful to not cut the
fabric. Also, trim any long
threads on the back of the
embroidery. Then, soak the
fabric in warm water to remove
the stabilizer. Refer to the
directions on the stabilizer
packaging to see how long to
soak. Blot the fabric with paper
towels and allow it to air dry.
Debra dear, why don't you do a bar of soap - if you don't want to use a candle - the same process would apply - I believe. Just find a large enough bar that you can apply a design to or a small enough design to fit on the bar of soap. OK?
Your cutaway is behind the chiffon. ie: chiffon is sandwiched between the two stabilizers. Does that make sense? You actually don't have to burn the candle if you are using it as a decoration. You know there are those fake candles also, not sure if there are different diameters or not though. If you use them in your window for Christmas... Might be something to think about maybe?
I'm ready for your challenge. It sounds like a candle smack down. LOL. When do we reveal the candles? is there a deadline because I need to buy the candles
Bev
I'm in...I have been waiting for a challenge! really motitvates me...although I have been keeping 2 embroidery machine running full speed these last few days...But I will say I have been wanting to do something with candles..so now I will..(((big bear Hug)))...*
Thanks for the link. I think there will be a lot of ladies taking you on on this challenge. I am going to give it a try. xx
