Hi Lee, I just read all the rest of the posts and it is too late to try what I was going to suggest, so the only thing now is to do a system restore.
It sounds to me that you know enough about computers to get yourself into serious trouble, but not enough to get yourself out of it. (meant in the nicest possible way)
My advice, leave it alone and wait for your son to come and do it for you or you could create far worse problems that will take longer to fix. Hugs n love, Meganne
Yep, that's me, can get myself in trouble but not out, lol. My son is so smart on this stuff that I feel like a dummy. He could fix it in one minute but he lives an hour away.
An hour is not much of a drive when your Mum REALLY needs you.
What's his favourite meal you used to make?
Invite him to dinner for his favourite meal and when he arrives say "dinner won't be long, about half an hour, while we're waiting, would you mind......?"
hehehehehehehe!
Lol, that wouldn't work with my son. His wife is a better cook. He will get me straightened out eventually. I have some designs on the card I can use, mostly FSL ornaments but I wanted to work on a couple of other things that will just have to wait. I won't screw it up worse. I did fumble my way through Trusizer, lol.
Leenova, I cant help you - I'm sorry, I just wanted to say that I'm sorry this happened to you! Its so frustrating when computers mess up, but great when to do work. Hope you get the help you need very soon.
Deb did you get your PED fixed? Your card reader is just a USB device and the computer should see it whether the software is loaded or not. Do you have the PElite or the basic? they are two different things. Which operating system is your computer? If it is XP highlite "my computer" and right click, then properties and then hardware and then device manager. Expand Universal Serial Bus Controller, look for any problems. It will show with a red "X" or an yellow "!". From that point let us know what you find. And we will go from there, unless your son contacts you. :)
When I double click on the icon the box comes up that says all that stuff but on the top blue part of it, it reads
pelite.exe-Entry Point Not Found
So I guess I have the pelite if that makes a difference in how to fix it.
I see your back on line. We had a surge protector also and we still lost a printer and tv. The surge knocked out our garage opener too!! Hope your son can help you!!!
I hope so too. I just wish my son would answer his phone and check his emails! I even emailed his wife and asked her to ask him to check his email! Emailed last night with no response, called this afternoon with no response. Was just there yesterday!
Oh, never was off line, just had to turn the computer back on, the only thing I lost was the part that brings up my Ped-basic. Everything else is fine.
You may have had a power surge which can do all kinds of things to your computer but won't affect your clocks. Clear history and cookies. Then uninstall program. Shut down and reboot computer then reinstall program.
My computer is on a surge protector and this room is wired with the 4 outlets on it's separate breaker because of all the electronics my son had in here when this was his bedroom. I did shut down and reboot and reinstall and reboot and nothing helped. I am not ready to uninstall yet. Still haven't heard from my son.
I feel for you dear - I wouldn't know what to do - other than rebooting your PC. I hope you have found a solution or reached your son by now.
I have no idea what that means but I hope that everything gets worked out! I know that mines use to shut done when I tried to open certain designs at one time but it never not opened...sending hugs your way *2U
While I do indeed use PED Basic, my suggestion would be to use the system restore feature of windows to go back to a point in time when you knew your system was running well (ie that PED Basic worked) which would prob be Thanksgiving morning, or the day before. This is usually the fastest way to correct a system error rather than reinstalling/uninstalling to try to fix the problem - this in itself can create more errors or instability in your operating system. The great thing about going back to when your puter was running fine is that if you just so happened to mess up reinstalling/uninstalling while trying to fix the problem, its all undone during the system restore.
There is a way to find out what caused a system crash but try system restore before attempting to decipher the info in the crash reports.
Out of curiosity were you faced with a msg that read: "the system has recovered from a serious error" after turning your computer back on when you'd found it shut down? My system suddenly shut down on me while using it a few nights ago and I was faced with the same msg on rebooting. My external drive was not recognised (yes, I panicked lol) so my first action is always a system reboot/restart and if that fails, usually system restore works - and did indeed return my drive to full working state :)
Long-winded answer but I hope this helps you :) xXx
When I started it back up it didn't tell me there was a problem.
I just now went to "my computer" and clicked on restore and it gave a sliding thing for how much to do so I clicked on Apply and OK, it didn't do anything so I rebooted and still nothing. Maybe that wasn't the part of restore I needed to do? Don't know, not computer savvy at all. :( Can you walk me through it?
I am going to run over and feel my son's cats so I'll be back on in 1/2 an hour or so.
Will you lose everything you downloaded or saved during the time between the failure and going back in time?
Sewmom. If you use the restore feature you woulde not loose any data. However you would loose programs and upsates that were INSTALLED
I won't lose any files, they are there I just can't access them to put them on my reader card. I rebooted twice with no luck. I also just had my son burn me a CD with the designs I had up through Tuesday so I have that if I need it but I forgot it at his house.
have you tried a new download from brother's online site, I couldn't download my original version on my windows 7 laptop, so I downloaded the latest version from brother's site. also don't have your card reader cable plugged in to pc, while you are uninstalling and reinstalling the ped-basic program. if you have already tried a new version from the website, maybe brother has a support that you can call, or email, good luck, debi
I am holding off on that till I hear from my son. He is a computer IT guy but doesn't check his email, go figure, lol. I did email his wife to ask her to let him know to check it. He doesn't answer his phone either so I usually have to call her to get to him.
so sorry this has happened at this time of the year...it is those gremlins that came in while you were gone.....you just need to find some of the angels now to help get it fixed back to normal.....
I should also add that I tried reinstalling the program 3 times and still get that.
Hi Lee, I use PE design also. That is a disaster! I use a Mac with Parallels to Windows, so I can give you a little help. How savvy are you, yourself? Can you navigate to the different folders? Do you know how to get to your My Computer file? You probably have to uninstall before you can reinstall. Give me a call and I'll try to talk you through it! How can I get you my phone number?? email me at wharton@rkymtnhi.com and we can communicate. Do you have skype? Jan
