Bev.......I don't know what the gauge is, but I used the stuff that you would use to cover a chair seat or a table cloth, it needs to be heavy enough to not tear away from the design when it is punctured by the stitching.....I have used this on sweatshirts & tshirts with the applique and it's awesome.........Vicki

thanks, i was in the fabric store a while back and asked the girl for plastic canvas, she was telling me she was a new employee and she took me directly to the vinyl. She was so proud of herself for doing her job that i just smiled and thanked her for helping me. I have never seen her since. LOL

Good, now you can ask for plastic canvas and maybe you'll get to the vinyl...LOL!
I hope I helped a little... reason I don't know the gauge is I used left over vinyl from covering our kitchen chair seats (we have rescued kitties and the shed, easier to wipe off the vinyl) and I used that leftover stuff for my embroidery.....so glad I had saved the scraps.....course we know to never throw anything out right?
