'The Extractor' is free, easy to use & unzips rar etc. Once used you will rarely use anything else. if you need help just ask. I have used this one for some time & love its simplicity
Hi Sewjo,
Firstly, RAR is NOT a design format.
It is a ZIPPED file containing several items, either designs or photo's or documents.
Just imagine you have clothes spread all over your bed and you want to take them on holidays with you, you can't carry them all in your arms because you'd probably drop them, or lose them. So you go and find a suitcase and you roll up all the clothes and squeeze them all inside the suitcase.
Well this is what a "zipped" file is, a container for lots of different things, to make it easy to send them out to other people over the internet. And of course, just like when you rolled up all the clothes and fitted them in a small container, a zipped file is usually smaller in size than all the items spread out everywhere.
Now, imagine you have locked the suitcase, you will need a key to open it, a zipped file needs a special program to open it.
If you go to the link below, scroll down the page you will see downloads for the program. Choose the one suitable to your pc System, download it and install it.
Once you have the program running on your pc, you should be able to right click on any zipped files and you will see choices to Extract Files/ Extract here / Extract to (name of the zipped file)
"Extract files": will open a box and you can choose where you want the contents of the zipped file to go;
"Extract here": will extract the contents to the Folder you are already in;
"Extract to": Will create another folder with the name of the zipped file, and empty the contents into that folder.
This is a brief explanation but has taken quite some time to write it out for you so please print out this answer and refer to it while you learn to use WinRar.
I do hope it helps and doesn't just confuse you.
Hugs n roses, Meganne
PS, if you double click on the photo below it should open larger so you can get a better look at the right mouse click menu box.
Wow! Meganne Thanks for taking the time to explain this. Great help for the rest of us.
I use 7zip. You click on and highlight the rar file. Right click and select 7zip from the menu. There are many options then, I choose extract here. The files appear, and I delete the rar file and file formats I do not want. Very easy.
