One more thing...if you use the prewound plastic bobbins, do not fill them and use again...many times they will crack and pieces will get lodged in your machine causing costly repairs.....
I learned when I took my class for my new machine that you should use 40 wt 100% polyester bobbin thread for embroidery machines...I had always used the same emb thread on top and bobbin...and now my embroidery goes much faster and much nicer...I bought a large spool at JoAnn's and fill my own bobbins.
I always use bobbinthread and wit FSL I use the same colour embroiderythread in the bobbin. Sometimes I use serger thread as well for FSL all wit no problems on my machine Pfaff Cretive Vision
I use emb thread in the bobbin most of the time with no problems. Mostly I do FSL or fleece blankets that show on both sides. When back won't show I use bobbin thread without problems and my lovely machine doesn't seem to care about brand.
I found that the 'clear glide' brand bobbin works pefectly in my machine (designer 1) Now I also have wound my own with matching embroidery thread when needed and never had aproblem. I must admit tho I've never had any problem at all with my machine that wasn't operator error! (giggle)

In the early 90's when I worked in the Viking store bobbin embroidery thread wasn't even an item yet, lol! Everyone used serger thread because it was lighter than regular thread and it worked wonderful. I still use it when I am in a pinch for colored bobbin thread, but now I use prewounds, mostly because I am just lazy.
yes, but they are expensive, ner new you could use serger thread in the bobbin!!! I have lots of serger threads!!Thanks****
I use generic pre-wounds with plastic sides for everything but FSL and times when you need the front to match the back (like ITH designs with satin stitching all around). So far, my machine has not been unhappy with the prewounds or the regular embroidery thread.
I use bobbin thread in my machine except when doing fsl. I use RA from Shoppers Rule, less than $10.00 for 5000 yards. It's a good buy since a 1100 yard spool at the sewing & embroidery machine shop costs more than I pay for the 5000 yard and my machine loves it but then I usually use RA and some Brother threads.
I use bobbin thread as well. The dealer advised against pre-wound bobbins and I used to buy Seralon also here in the region of $4. Then I went to the wholesale dealers and I bought a big cone which will last forever. The thread seems to be thinner and it is as if the quality of the finished project is better. I've used embroidery thread when I do applique such as the smartneedle towel toppers as it gives a better finish and had no problems with that.
South Africa - from the agents of Seralon. Mettler WAS only from Bernina but I don't kno if they still stock. The Seralon is 5000 metres and am on my second cone (this year!)
This is a great question. I have only ever used bobbin thread and have had no problems. I am a bit loath to try anything else in case it does not work. I have an old second hand machine and I do not want to try anything that might upset it!! *4U
When I got my Bernina 440 it was recommended I use the Metttler Bobbin thread, which is pretty expensive ($10 for 1000mtr) so I switched to Seralon ($4.50 for 5000mtr). There is a BIG difference in that Mettler gives a far better finish to the satin stitch edge- I use ordinary overlocking polyester thread when i need the same colour as the top. If I do FSL i use Mercerised cotton top and bobbin. As for embroidery thread- I use Marathon Rayon but am switching to Colourful
polyester.
interesting....I usually use bobbin thread in bobbin, but when doing a design to show on both sides like redwork on block, burp cloth, etc...I use same in both and use same in both when doing fsl.....
I've said it before & I say it again, I do believe each machine has a mind of it's own. My daughter & I have the same machine. Hers does not like anything but YLI bobbin thread, mine I always use bobbin thread except for Fsl. If FSL is white I use white bobbin thread with no problems, colored FSL I use the same thread top & bobbin. My machine likes several bobbin threads that my daughters doesn't I use YLI, finishing touch, coats & clark & several others that my daughter cannot use without having problems. Now go figure that.
Forgot the Marathon agents stock the pre wound bobbins -they are agents for industrial machines
I remember when I first started and bought the wrong bobbin thread and man that was a horrible experience. The seller claimed it would work. Me not knowing any better bought it. I haven't tried the same color in the bobbin for FSL yet...Interesting question ;D *2U
I use prewound bobbins, but be sure it is the right size for your machine there is a difference...I use "L" in my machine which is the one that was recommended. I do recall that my Brother 8500 definitely preferred Brother Bobbin Thread and not the metal bobbins but the plastic ones...just have to try out and see what works ... hugs Maria x0x0x0
yeap...trying and trying to see what works best, thanks.....hUGS AND BLESSINGS
I was trained to always use bobbin thread, whether prewound or special bobbin thread. Occasionaly I will use the same color in the bobbin, but only if needed.
Embroidery bobbin thread in the bobbin unless you are doing FSL. My Brother SE-350 works fine that way.
bobbin thread is a lot thinner than regular embroidery thread and a lot cheaper. All machine companies recommend you use bobbin thread in your machine unless you are doing free standing lace. The machines are factory set to use the thinner bobbin thread.
every embroidery machine I have ever owned has been fussy about the bobbin thread, they all liked a different kind. I use pre-wound in my brother pr620 but my single needle brother didn't like that, my janome that I still have likes the thread i get from echidna, they are all different in my experience, I would only bother with the embroidery thread in the bobbin for fsl so that it is the same color.
I use pre wound bobbins. I look forward to others answers on this question
