Thank you all for your knowledge and helpful comments. Sarah
I prefer cotton thread, it's soft at touch and has a vintage appeal in cutwork or old fashioned embroidery (expecially fine in matching tones). Poly is good anyway with thicker fabrics. Bye.Adriana
Hi I have used both. The embroidery thread gives a real nice satin sheen to the embroidery and the cotton thread gives it the old fashion look like the old doilys they used to make. Either one would be fine depends on the look you want. Hope that helps. Suzanne
Linen shirts need a good iron after they have been washed and a hot iron works best. Cotton thread will iron at a higher temperature than poly. The way I iron - (can you hear my husband laugh at this?) it is easy to catch the poly thread and melt it by accident. This will not happen with cotton thread
AAAAH! Does nobody use the old-fashioned 'pressing cloth' these days?
I still do, especially on hubby's suits and linens that don't press very well without extra heat and wetting down.

I love cotton thread, it does not have the shine polyester has but I think that's an advantage on linen - it has a more natural look to it. Just make sure it's the right weight - 40, if it's thinner you might have to go over the satin edges a second time. I'd say go ahead!
