with it, I went on to Christmas ornaments! Even tho I hadn't done any FSL, I have been collecting designs for the day I would venture that way. Several are going into the trash can! Hahaha! Now I have found out what to look for and what to ignore! Has this happened to any of you? Some I stitched out leterly fel apart when rinsed with water. Most tho worked out great. Thanx to Lee for starting me on this. I love it!!! Hugs, Judy

I've had lace fall apart too and shift those designs to a 'lace'-file and keep my FSL-file for the real stuff. And I make a note of the digitiser/site I got the designs from.

Test stitching is a significant part of digitising and when I digitise FSL I stitch them out not once but several times and in different formats - I can use jef, dst, vip, hus and pes for the different machines I own - and if one of them shows the slightest sign of a hole I change them all.
I am glad to hear the tree was fine.

Judy, I am glad to hear that you tried FSL - it is always sad to hear - when it falls apart - I am glad to hear you found designs that worked finally. I have had things fall apart too. But I have a love of lace - so I just keep on stitching on. *4U

I really only had 2 items fall apart, but when they say FSL, you kinda expect them to be. I will try the tule under the one bell, maybe it will sew better. It is a beautiful design. Hugs, Judy

Thanx! I will try that and see what I can do. When it looks like it couldn't stay together, It probably won't Hahaha! Hugs, Judy

Oh yes, I have had some fall apart in my hand when the water touched them. Threw away 2 last night as a matter of fact. They were even from a website that sells (though I got those free) and not ones from cuties. I love FSL and Lee's Christmas tree is great!

The ornaments I have done from Cute worked very well. The ones I had trouble with were Free. But we all learn as we go along in life, and I probably needed this lesson! Hugs, Judy

I taught this in a class and some people had a problem because of the stabilizer they chose or if they did not get it tight in the hoop. I like the fabric style wash away better than the film style I seem to have less trouble with it sliding in the hoop.
beware they can be addicting !!

I always use the fiber style wss on my FSL. The plastic kind, only on top of towels and some felt and some fabric items.

I got Sulky WSS, and that is the only kind I have used yet. The only kind I have seen! Got it at JoAnn's, but wanted to try other types too. Hugs, Judy

Judy not all lace are FSL. I bet you the ones that fell apart were meant to be stitched on organza or the like. When I first started collecting I wasn't smart enough to put the FSL ones in a separate folder. Now sometimes I still don't know and run them through a stitch simulator to see if they all interlock. Designers are specific if it is FSL or lace and sometimes they look alike. Usually the FSL has a high stitch count.

good point on the high stitch count! Thanks, I never thought of that!

I put only ones that state FSL in my FSL file, and yes, I can see how ythey could get mixed up. Thanx for the advice. Hugs, Judy

Thank you, mops did a great job on the tree. My trees turned out great and that is the only fsl i have tried. I havn't tried any other. So what do i have to look for in my next fsl. I'd hate to waste all the costly stabilizer. I'm very new at the fsl too.

I stitch out your tree and it came out perfect. Between you and Martine it will be a hit long into the future.

Hi Lee, I lay strips of left over wss across and up and down my hoop then just use 1 layer of new over it so the foot doesn't catch and snarl it up (has happened to me so I learned that), I keep a basket by the sewing table to put in all wss large enough to lay over spaces of others. I do the same a lot with my tear away too.

great tip! I will try that for sure.
thank you
Lee

I have noticed the FSL designs when stitching out, they criss cross sewing over themselves in different directions. All of you probably already know that, but I didn't. Also, I started adding strips inside the 2 layers of WSS to help around edges, as it sews many times over at the edge. I have managed several really beautiful ornaments. Thanx for info. Hugs, judy
