I have stitched with cotton, but it is dull in comparison with rayon and poly.
I think mine are rayon and polyester, Have not tried the cotton. Helen
I've only used their cotton thread for quilting, but I love all of their thread! I've used their rayon, poly and metallic, besides the cotton. Good quality and excellent value.
I use Thread Art thread and love it. It saves me almost $5 a spool from what I have to pay for it in the stores here. The quality is quite good. I have not used their cotton thread, but have used the metallic and poly. I was skeptical because of the price and they sent me a sample spool to try. Now I have almost all of their colors - great thread, great price. And their bobbin thread works very well with my Brother.
My mother embroidered pillow cases before I was born and did not embroider the sheets, which I did with the same design (which my father had drawn for her) when I was expecting my first child 30 years later. Last year (and another 40 years later) I digitised the design and used it for some extra cot sheets and a couple of onesies for my granddaughter and used cotton to get the same look. It matched up so much better than rayon or polyester would have done and it washes well.
Thank you! I was wondering about the washing.
What sort of design did your father draw? It is so great that you could digitize it.
I have just seen your story about the linen. Just lovely. I just love the look of antique things - probably because I am a bit of an antique myself!!! As you so rightly say the cotton thread washes beautifully.
I brought the project I used the design on to the top so you can see my dad's design.
I don't think I would use it for any other embroidery - than the FSL - I only use it there - when I want the design to look like it is old. *4U
Other than cut work on a cotton or linen top like airyfairy did the other day I would only use rayon or viscose because I love the sheen of it.
I have just use cotton thread for the first time. (see my cutwork on a shirt that I posted a couple of days ago). It is great for linen as it has no sheen so it looks rather old fashioned. Good luck. Sarah.
Nadyne, the only time I have used cotton for embroidery was when I did a bowl and doily that looked more like battenburg than fsl...turned out great. If you doubt you'll ever use it don't buy it as it's just something else to keep up with...lol ..ask me how I know.
Thanks. I think my DH is thinking of this for Christmas so I won't say no...just want to USE IT!!!
Hugs, Nadyne
