For all of you who asked about the cutwork needles: this is one of the (4) designs that came with them. I used felt and the cut was not clean - as you can see in the picture - I now understand why leather was used in the demonstration I saw. This might better have been cut by hand.

As per instructions I cleaned the machine afterwards and just as well - the bobbin area of my brand new machine looked as if it had been used 24/7 for at least a month!

But even so it makes a nice card.

Thank you for sharing your design. I haven't decided if I would use them enough to warrent buying them. That design would be pretty even if not cut out. Do you know whether you can stitch out the design without using the special needles?

Martine, this is amazing - to think that a needle cut that - but you are right - it might have been that you used felt - but the end product is nice - might not met our standards - but nonetheless - it is unique and wonderful to have it done - in the hoop - without you removeing and doing the cutwork with a pair of scissors. Thanks for showing this and good luck with the next project. *4U

Lucky you to also have a new machine and these needle and designs.

Shirlene, thanks! yes, I'm lucky to have the new Ruby and my daughter is delighted to get my 11 yr old Designer1 -which makes me feel less guilty for splashing out on a new one. It has an enormous hoop: 360 x 200, not as big as the Diamond, but large enough to have me move my table away from the wall! And the old extra hoops I bought can be used on the new one.

Felt is very hard to get clean edges on because of the way the fibers lay, too much fuzzies as you found in your bobbin case. I am sure the needles will work wonderful on other fabrics. This was a very nice job none the less! Congrats!

Still very pretty despite the "hairy" edges. Thanks for the demo, it helps to decide on the needles.

Martine, thank you for the demo (and your card is so pretty!). Maybe cutwork needles are still in their infancy stage(?) and may have a way to go before they are perfected. I like the idea and wish it worked well!!! Do you think that is the case? Laura*

The Husqvarna lady who demonstrated the needles had a number of exquisite projects, including a 30 cm wide design repeated from waist to seam on a woolen skirt. It looked absolutely fabulous. I think felt is just the wrong material, linen, cotton (she just starch before embroidering), leather and suede and imitation leather, they all had nice clean-cut edges.
I'll have another go soon.

Very interesting. Thank you for showing us the cutwork. There must be something wrong with me as I just love the cutting part of cutwork!!! Sarah.

I do too, but it seemed so nice to do very small parts with the needles.
