Have not tryed it at this time. Now I need to give it a try. Thanks for this question. H&*
I have done embroidery on ribbon. Have a Janome machine and there is a special foot that holds the ribbon in place while you sew decorative stitches onto it.
I do embroider on ribbon all the time and have used several kinds. I like to make bows with ribbon for cemetary flowers. Always use a sturdy one that will hold up in the rain and snow if necessary. I use sticky stabilizer I got with my hat frame and just stick the ribbon to the paper. It holds quite well and really looks nice. I don't like to make hsts that much so the hoop gets many other uses. Really do not need a hat hopp since you can hoop the sticky paper, use a razor blade and score the paper to pull off the top so the sticky is up. It is addictive. I love to embroider on toilet paoer also. Makes such cute gifts, especially for baby showers.
This has been posted before, it is Lindee G's video on how to embroider on ribbon.

I have done it alot of times, just make sure the ribbon is tight in your frame and you shouldn't have any problems.
Linda, I have in the past used ribbon to put my Mother's name in her clothes for the Skilled Nursing Home - it worked fine. *4U
Yes both using the frame with my Brother Galaxie and without the frame
I embroidered some numbers on grosgrain ribbon. It turned out OK. I used temp. spray adhesive to attach the ribbon to stabilizer and basted the ribbon on as well. It wasn't a dense design so I had no problem with distortion. Hope this helps.
Yes, I embroider names on ribbon. I only embroider on grosgrain ribbon. I don't have any problems. The ribbon I use is thick and I don't have any problems. Joan
I tried this once - just because my manual showed how it was done. It was not a great success. I must try again one day. I am sure you will have a lot of help from all the talented Cuties out there. Great question.
